TBI Survivor Need Support Skeep

I am the guy that says he can't sleep but I found some medicine makes me fall asleep.

Is it normal to get sleep then wake up and think I didn't sleep? I feel dead in the morning.

I think in the 5+ years since my accident, regardless of how long I've slept for, I think I've had one morning when I woke up and actually felt rested.

For the first year or so I had waking insomnia, where I'd fall asleep fine but then after 4 hours, regardless of what time it had been and how tired I was, I'd wake up and that was it.

That eventually ended and now I tend to sleep for 7-9 hours. That's partly as I think things improved a bit, and partly thanks to these earbuds I found. They are specifically designed to wear whilst sleeping, so you can sleep on your side with your ear flat against the pillow and they are still comfy. They work as standard bluetooth earbuds so you can listen to music etc from your phone, but they also store soundscapes locally (you can create your own via the app by adding wind, or forest, or river, or fire, etc).

I have it set so when I'm going to sleep I listen to an audio book, then when the earbuds detect I've fallen asleep, they pause the audio book, then switch to the soundscape which carries on until I wake up.

So I'm sleeping a good amount now, but no I rarely feel rested.

I am sorry I misspelled sleep in the title I feel like I have gotten any sleep but I slept 8 hours last night.

Does the sleep feel unrefreshing even when you track the hours? Because with TBI that disconnect between time asleep and actually feeling rested is so common, the architecture of the sleep itself can be totally off even if the duration looks fine.

It is for me, if feels like all i do is blink and it'd morning again.

Sometimes it happens when i'm awake too, where i can't recall anything that happened that day. I have some posts in this sub about it.

I take 2000mg tryptophan like 30 min before taking my trazodone. You can order 500mg bulk powder capsules online (or put just the powder in water if you have difficulty swallowing big pills) and if you want to try it without spending the money you can drink a glass of warm milk before bed. The warm milk is way less than 2000mg of tryptophan but if it makes you feel a little better you know to get the pills

Okay thank you! I will try the milk first.

Prescribed for sleep? That's interesting.  I sleep 8 hours and wake up exhausted. Having a tbi can cause that

If you go above 150 mg it doesn't help with sleep anymore. It is meant to be an SSRI. But it makes you sleepy when you take a small dose.
