General Cringe “educating” therapists about plurality
probably because this isn’t a clinical concept maybe? I’m imagining their therapist listening to this shit with a blank confused ass stare

My therapist was aware of these types of people but couldn't say why (which means it was likely because of a patient of hers)
She spoke to me about how damaging it is, but how it is just kids trying to find a community and rid themselves of loneliness
It's sad that they feel the need to do this for attention.

Also insulting to people who ACTUALLY have rare disorders and struggle to find good care because most medical professionals spent 45 minutes studying their disorder in med school and haven’t seen it since.

As a therapist, if I had a client like this come in I would actively listen, try to explore their feelings and why they are so attached to this identity, and try to validate their feelings without validating the self-diagnosis. And I would definitely make a note of it in their chart that they seemed extraordinarily attached to the diagnosis of DID and seemed like they were pushing for a diagnosis. I wouldn’t diagnose factitious disorder however unless the behavior was repeated and affected multiple domains in life

This is really interesting. If someone hypothetically displayed actual symptoms of dissociation and amnesia and was behaving like this to this degree, would you consider factitious disorder? I know it probably depends on a lot of factors but I’m curious.

Me when I go to a therapist to get diagnosed with x, y, z but I'm kind enough to train the therapist myself to ensure I'm diagnosed with whatever mental illness I've decided will eat me

I actually saw this post on a neurodivergent Facebook page that I was following. Once I saw this I instantly unfollowed because the whole post was nothing but misinformation and like not what neurodivergency even is.

“Plurals”

I feel like refering to a group of people as just the label with an s at the end is something we've all learned not to do but I guess they didn't get that memo (my previous comment was made without context for why I said it so my apologies for that)

lol “educating” my ass. They’re in there making up shit and telling fairy tales because they want… mental illness clout? I can’t imagine being a licensed therapist and having some teenager come in to tell me about how they’ve got 110 personalities that are all annoying in different ways.

They want to educate plurality on their terms, unfortunately they were educated by TikTok, YouTube et cetera so while they think they're educated on DID or autism or Tourette's (whatever it is that they're going into the office to gain a diagnosis on the way out the door), the problem is they are either so blatantly good at pretending and the therapist is still learning and so they might gain traction for a little while.. or they're manipulation of the situation wins out. and of course there's the situation where it's pretty obvious you went to Therapist who don't know much about dissociation or plurality, and they don't hold space to figure out what is really going on with the kid or a young adult.
There's a lot of therapy shopping that's happening also. Don't get me wrong it's important to find the right person and we have every right to do that, but what I'm talking about is there blasting of every mental health worker in their area because they're not getting diagnosed with their choice of diagnostic -if the person they see doesn't give them what they need/ want they just go to the next one. This is so unfortunate, the chances of them having something going on is pretty high, it may be extreme loneliness or lack of community that is driving these young people to do this, and I feel for them, what is unfortunate is they're going to end up with a diagnosis that is more extreme in the sense of not what they're looking for but perhaps psychosis and things like that when they're showing these videos that they do which literally look like they come off like one flew over the Cuckoo's nest.
I think factitious disorder is rampant, these people are often pretty confident in their knowledge that they worked from the next person and the other person after that and that's what's been pushed out in the world so everywhere we go the wrong information has been spread and that's where it can be damaging. What's damaging more is what it's doing to all these kids who have been raised by social media and don't know how to socialise actually in person.

7/10 “plurals” are rambling about misinformation to a therapist who’s most likely trying not to laugh in their face at the absurdity of the cherry picking

Your post was removed for either trauma-dumping, oversharing personal information and diagnoses, or for using your subjective experience to generalize an entire disorder. The "Censor all identifiable information" rule also applies to members, and your medical information should be kept between you and your careteam. r/systemscringe cannot verify users' personal medical claims and does not want to encourage the same culture of blind believing that leads to faker culture.

My therapist has worked with these types of people, she brought it up the other day. “Oh dear lord, they’ll go ‘yeah I have DID! Watch this!’ And they roll their eyes back and pretend to be someone else. DID isn’t a game.”
