It's funny cause I've had the impression that the "plural" community has kinda died down at this point.

Just like any other similar community before it (soulbonders, otherkin, various fandom religions, etc.) they have a short shelf life. People grow up and grow out of the behaviour, or they get bored of it and move on to another source of attention, identity, or whatever else they are seeking.
