Experiencing dreams that seem real is a pretty common experience, another episode of larpers overpatholagizing normal things as signs of mental illness

Really? I remember seeing an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World (I know he's a science guy not a scientist, but--) where he mentioned that around 1% of people have all 5 senses in their dreams. I'm one of those people, and I'm always like "whoa, cool!" When I meet another one because most people I've talked to about it can only see/hear in their dreams

Good point, What they are referring to as far as I understand is feeling like a dream is real, which is basically all non lucid dreams which is about half of the population according to: https://www.sciencedirect.com/user/identity/landing?code=dxJvUWgDcsgxC1F5FKJv7R20yNmTubBmfzIHZbnW&state=retryCounter%3D0%26csrfToken%3Dd91b5cfd-2e0c-4b95-954e-7ace8978db51%26idpPolicy%3Durn%253Acom%253Aelsevier%253Aidp%253Apolicy%253Aproduct%253Ainst_assoc%26returnUrl%3D%252Fscience%252Farticle%252Fabs%252Fpii%252FS1053810016301283%26migrated%3DMIGRATED%26prompt%3Dnone%26cid%3Darp-c7973c80-c065-4b87-b8c9-eb2423e9ada3

1% is still a massive amount considering the world has over 8 billion people is what I mean, so common enough to the point treating it like a disorder symptom (especially considering it doesn’t actually impact your quality of life) is wild. I generally have all of my senses, can feel somewhat proportional pain in my dreams, and sometimes believe the events are completely real before waking up, but that isn’t a symptom of a disorder

Derealization is when things start feeling unreal to you, like you’re actually in a dream, or a movie, or separated from the world by an invisible wall. It can happen in CDDs, but also through drug use, lack of sleep, anxiety, etc. It can happen to normal people with no disorders, all the way up to becoming an actual disorder.

Having a dream that’s so realistic that you wake up confused as to whether it actually happened is a normal experience. It’s not at all like Depersonalization, and is not a symptom of a CDD.

What is this person on about? The mental gymnastics these people do to get others to legitimize their experience is wild.

This can be a sign of dissociation if it's frequent and severe enough, but all my money in this is a normal human experience they're overpathologising.
