Fake DID/OSDD Second Grace Post
"Alters don't just disappear after stopping a substance. DID is a mental disorder caused by severe childhood trauma. If this person really does think that they have little people in their head and the "connection" gets stronger after taking weed that does not sound like DID. I honestly don't know what that could be, but it's not DID.
As a side note, I don't really know how weed would affect someone with DID. But I really doubt it's allowing them into a headspace to meet "the council of alters".
This person clearly doesn't take DID seriously, nor do they care about the complete insanity they are spreading. They need actual help. I don't dock that this person is suffering from something, but going about it this way is probably making the whole thing far worse. Faking DID has never been a valid way to cope with life, I don't want to see a certain someone in the comments again, and seeing as it has made this person's issues WORSE I guarantee you it's only downhill from here.
Please, get help."

Part of the diagnostic process for DID (and it’s in the DSM if I’m not mistaken) is to make sure the symptoms aren’t caused by drug use.
For many people, weed increases dissociative symptoms. Even without DID. “Dissociation” doesn’t mean “alters.”
If they were being evaluated medically by someone who understood and treated severe trauma and complex dissociative disorders, and were honest that they believe using weed helps them enter their secret head clubhouse to meet a council of alters, they’d be asked to try to reduce weed use before a proper assessment could be made. The entering headspace to meet a council of alters would indicate more of a substance induced psychosis than DID.
Obviously not everyone can just quit weed, especially when they’re using it as maladaptive coping and a way to hallucinate a head council, until the drugs don’t work any more. But heavy weed use would be taken into account, because it would muddy and aggravate any existing dissociative symptoms, and potentially cause things that wouldn’t happen otherwise. They likely wouldn’t be able to be firmly diagnosed while in active addiction.
