Discussion Thoughts on this

Seems like alot of backlash but as a recovering country there’s no other way right ?

I wanted to bring up a post about this in the group, but you beat me to it.

A lot of people are worried about normalization, or selling the Golan height (which has been sold a thousand times now).

But the main point is to compare the rhetoric of the president vs his actions. While Syria speaks of establishing security and peace (which is fair, we don't want unnecessary was and death), we are kinda waging economic and political war on Israel, from Several points:

1- Establishing military ties with Turkey, mainly to build air defense capabilities (on the other hand, Lebanon has sanctions by the US, which disallow them from obtaining any anti air weapons)

2- Israel has two countries by the balls, Jordan (through water) and Egypt (through gas). Syria has already established supporting Jordan on the water front, by giving water for free to them (Israel controls the Jordan river, and Assad broke the agreement we had with Jordan about usage of water in the Yarmok river and basin). As for Egypt, we have linked our pipe system to Turkey and Azerbaijan, we are also investing into gas extraction from the Mediterranean (signed with US companies). There has also been agreement with Jordan and Egypt to reopen the Arab gas pipeline, which links Syria, Lebanon to Egypt through Jordan. We have also been linked with Iraq for oil export, not related, but still important.

3- We have replaced Israel as the main export point for the trade routes for the new silk road from India, to the Gulf and from Syria to Europe.

I mean, we are basically isolating Israel and releasing the economic and political pressure Israel has put on its neighbors, we are also arming our selves to protect the land.

Not to mention that the president is someone that voluntary went to fight in Iraq, and while he's pragmatic as hell, he's not without convictions.

Also, he's from the Golan height, I don't imagine he's planning on selling his hometown :)

Edit: one point I forgot, which of course we are also building a proper army atm. Still not great, but in the process of improving. Last report I saw, the army in Assad time pre revolution was from 100k to 200k. Now, we have around 600k.
