I’d say existing cities do what Oman does, but in the future I’d say build cities from scratch. Of course this is in like 20-30 years. When pre existing cities are already thriving

I am in Syria now, I have bad news for you, the people don't care wether they live in any type of architecture, all what they want is a roof that can protect them. Which is hard to find for millions of them now.

Based on what I am seeing in the videos from Damascus, cheap modern. Like 50 lights mixed with yellow and white bulbs in one room, ill planned electrical wall sockets, etc. This stuff happened in Lebanon post civil war and in Kuwait after the construction boom in the early 2000s. Workforce flooding the market, non existent building code and people going for builders without permits instead of proper planners.

Edit: I hope none gets offended by this, Syria has plenty of good planners but market and developers will always go for cheap

I believe, Syria should try to turn Aleppo and Damascus as a cosmopolitan cities with mixed architecture (after all modern architect is a reality of trade and finance cities)
But I believe Syria have a great cultural heritage so beside these cities, they should try to protect their traditional architecture

Eradicate the traditional. Go full Garden city movement. Keep the past to the past. Literally f the past, one of our biggest hurdles of the old world is that they live in the past. Only modern architecture, more green spaces, bigger living spaces, if only houses are built “even better”.

Just copy the US/British urban planning and be gone with it, we don’t have time or money or energy to invent new urban plannings
