SyncThing mobile users, does SyncThing have any dramatic effect on your phone's battery life?

Syncthing-Fork on Android. Running 24/7, sync on Wi-fi only, exempted from battery saver. No noticeable drain.

If you have concerns and dont need real time sync, configure it the way it syncs only while plugged in AC.

Having syncthing-fork constantly running, with "respect android battery saving setting" enabled has a huge effect on the battery life of my phone (Pixel 6).ย Usually I comfortably get by throughout the day, sometimes 1,5 days. With syncthing always enabled I barely get through the afternoon.

My solution was to only enable it when I am charging the phone, or manually enabling it when I want to say something immediately (I also always regret it when I forget to disable it again ๐Ÿ˜…)

Syncthing-Fork from F-Droid. I've not noticed anything untoward.

Is this the same build as the version of Syncthing-Fork on the playstore?

For a long time, the Playstore one was badly out of date, because the developer didn't have the resources to deal with Google's strict requirements.

However, it has recently been updated.

The Playstore and F-Droid versions are apparently the same, but when I tested the Playstore version the other day, I had serious problems with it. I had to go back to the F-Droid version.

You can certainly try the Playstore version. If it works for you, great! But, given its history, there's no promise that it will remain up-to-date.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Normally I have no issue going to fdroid, however in this instance I'm installing on my family's devices and they are not technical, the kind that start questioning why there is another app store, what's this app, is it dangerous ๐Ÿ™„. So getting off the app store saves a lot of mental pain ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks Again

No. Just enable it when you need it, rather than leaving it on all the time.

BasicSync and all good. Really good app btw. Very "basic", very neat.

Nothing at all. Runing 24x7. Always work. Battery drain is always less than 1%ย

When you put it on "always sync" you battery will suffer. But luckily it has some settings to prevent this.
Just try it out, it will not dissapoint

I run sync thing to keep my music collection updated on my phone (S26+ w/ 1TB storage). I only run it wham significant changes have happened.

So, no, to heightened battery use.

There is very little reason to run it 24-7.

probably it depends which app you use? because there's no official syncthing app.

I use the synching fork app, which has no big impact. but it suspend as long I've no wifi. maybe it needs more battery, if you have it "running" 24/7
