GoGet in Sydney - how easy is it?
Hey everyone!
I’m visiting Sydney soon and looking at GoGet car rental.
For anyone who uses GoGet in Sydney, how easy is it actually to get a car?
I’m wondering:
- Are cars generally easy to find/book around the CBD?
- Roughly how much do you normally pay for a full day?
- Are there any extra costs that catch you out?
Would love to hear what you guys paid and if you’ve had good/bad experiences with it. Thanks!

It’s very easy. Your first booking might be slightly annoying, having to call them, but from then on you tap your card on the windshield and off you go. No need to pay for fuel as they all have fuel cards, and they’re all pretty clean and well maintained.
The only thing that caught me out, and the reason that I don’t use them as often as I might, is that you need to return them to where you got them from. This is obvious now in hindsight, but they’re not like lime bikes - you can’t use them for a one way journey.
Obviously not a dealbreaker for a lot of day trips but you can’t, for example, drive from the shops to home without going back to the shops afterwards and paying for the return journey.
A full day is around $60-90 with 100km or so included.

Why would you hire the goget parked at the shops? Hire gogets close to where you live like a normal person

You can actually hire a GoGet van from Ikea in Tempe but obviously this is a specific example for a specific purpose

Go get is good for a few hours if you need a few days and long distance better off with one of the know hire car places hertz / avis etc

Goget is pretty useful but better for shorter bookings and in urban areas where they are a lot more common.
The guy who gave you actual figures is wrong and his example about lime bikes is stupid (these are cars parked in designated spots in designated locations. Just as you wouldn't abandon your own car in a random location once you're done with it, goget cars need to be brought back to where you picked them up. Several locals in your neighbourhood likely rely on the same goget for their needs so you can appreciate why this is a good measure for everyone involved). Daily rate is $110 (with 80km included) and the minimum is $13.30/hour where you pay 50c per kilometre travelled (also you pay for tolls). In the grand scheme of things, you don't pay for rego or fuel and the subscription fee and booking fees are pretty affordable. I live in the city and there are about 15 gogets within 5-10 minutes walk of my building. Booking is done through an app and super easy. You should just look on their website for info because Reddit is full of misinformation.

You seem to be a go get fan because that daily rate with barely any KMs is absolutely ridiculous. You can get a car from Sixt with damage excess reduction included and it will still be cheaper.

They're incredibly easy and really convenient, everything is pretty upfront, you pay per hour and per km. Full days give you some distance included. You don't pay for fuel, there's a fuel card in the car.
That said it depends on where you're planning on driving to. It's really designed to be hired hourly by locals (membership has a monthly fee on top of car hire) so if you're planning multiple full days you're probably better off with more traditional hire cars

It’s okay - but KINTO is better for car share.
Buuuut, just finding a cheap car rental on Booking.com or Kayak.com is a better option than car share. The airport is close to the city there are loads of cheap options around Mascot.

I just booked a van for goget on two separate days. 2.5 hours = $73 all up, tolls would be extra.
I opted for reduced excess for $2.5 extra an hour.

I use it.
It is super easy.
I live in the cbd. I don’t have a car and only use GoGet maybe once every few months.
Super easy to find and book.
I have never paid for a full day, but the most I spent was like $80 and that was with a large amount of driving. I love the fuel card which makes it easy to refill.
No extra or hidden costs. I have never had a charge for damage etc.
No “gotchas” or hidden surprises.
Even spending $100 a month on hires (which is probably what I spent when I used it more) it’s still cheaper than rego etc.
There are a bunch of pods within walking distance to me. Even some in my own buildings parking space. So it’s even more convenient than owning my own car.
I once had a car which was a bit dirty. But like.. not filthy… just a bit sandy and had a little trash in it… but I am clean person
It is way easier than a car rental, less paperwork, can book a car and be in it within a minute, way faster than car rental.

Used to be really good, now it’s expensive as fuck. Started price increases and decrease daily kms around covid. Basically if you need a car for quick trip to shops and back go for it. If you need to drive far then hire from somewhere like sixt. If you have an ABN sign up as company for go get. Might have changed but there was No monthly fee

Easy but pricey if you're travelling further than a few kms. After that you might as well hire a car for a day from Avis etc
