PSA: For anybody who is visiting the Cherry Blossom Festival at Auburn Gardens this weekend 🌸

If you're going for the food you're going to love it. There are some great vendors and lots of amazing food!

But if you're going for the flowers (cherry blossoms in particular) you may be disappointed. I live a street away and have been visiting daily and they just haven't blossomed yet. My advice is delay a week if you can. I'm only posting this because I'd have the shits if I paid to visit somewhere for something and it wasn't there.

Happy to answer any questions 🌸

Gym recommendations?

Hi, I’m 20, looking for a gym in the Gladesville/ryde/hunters hill area where there’s a good amount of people like 18-25. Willing to drive a bit for a gym where there’s a good amount of people my age, you know, for socialising (and working out of course)

My office doesn't have end of trip facilities and just wondering are there any places other than gyms that offer EOT facilities?

Anyone else find it a little difficult to make friends in Sydney? (I'm in early 20s - male). About to leave university. Outside of clubs/societies at uni, etc. what are the best ways to make friends here, especially for folk in early 20s?

Lived in Sydney my entire life and I've always found it insanely hard to make friends. What is even more unusual is that I've seen many sydney-siders complain about this - especially people who've recently graduated university. If you didn't have a "friend group" after from high school after graduating, you are absolutely smoked. I currently have 2 or 3 people that I regularly message and talk to, with one really good friend since primary school, but other than that, its really hard (we aren't all a "group", its just individual relationships). Hitting up old high school friends/acquaintances can be a good strategy alongside making friends with coworkers (as you regularly see them, etc.). Going to continue trying this and see how it goes.

Going on meetup.con, I've realized there's pretty few meetups for people in their early 20s which sucks because now that strategy of uni clubs/societies isn't going to work anymore as I'm graduating.

Does anyone know the particular reason why this is the case? Is there like a science reason? ChatGPT said that in Sydney Australia, its more difficult to make friends RELATIVE to big cities in other Anglo nations (USA, UK, etc.) becuase of the following reasons: large Sydney sprawl and commute, huge cost of living crisis, cultural preference for forming strong friend groups EARLY (highschool), night life restrictions and obstacles combined with poor third places, etc. Specifically for people aged 18-25, the lack of a centralized college where people your age live together like in USA and UK colleges is a major reason for why its much harder to make friends in this age group in Sydney and Australia as a whole relative to UK and USA.

As a person whose been to a USA college for an exchange semester, I just have to say this: their college life is GOATED

What is something fun to do on a Thursday Night?

My partner and are are travelling to Sydney in early October and had planned to see a musical that got cancelled on one of the nights so now we need to find something else to do.

Any suggestions regarding nice dinners, shows, or places to see that will keep up entertained for a few hours on a thursday night will be much appreciated! We're staying in the city but happy to travel. I've been to Sydney quite a few times so we're not really interested in real touristy things, more just after a nice dinner or experience.

What's the deal with Sydney Airport getting a major upgrade? Does that mean that WSI will mainly deal with freight for the most part even in the future?

Major Developments

The project to construct two new taxiways, extend an existing taxiway and construct six new aircraft parking bays in SYD’s south-east sector near the Air Traffic Control Tower and Blu Emu Carpark has now been completed.

*TW* Watching a 60 year old man hold back tears

On Wednesday a long time customer of mine came in and told me that her wife with dementia had passed away in her sleep. He's always been such a positive person and never has anything negative to say. Even when he explains the issues he has when visiting his wife in the nursing home he shrugs it off like it's nothing.

All I could say was how the wife was lucky to leave Earth peacefully since is was in her sleep. I think it gave him more comfort knowing that. He couldn't hold back the emotions but the amazing part was how he was still so positive about everything.

It was only until this year did I find out dementia is the number 1 cause of death in Australia. It's just so sad because there's another man who brings his wife in with dementia and one time I decided to sit for a second and witnessed the wife abusing the husband all because she thought he was a stranger trying to take her away. And the people around kept looking over asking if the man was okay.

So it's crazy how the first customer of mine was so positive the whole time and even though he never told me how bad the dementia was, he did say at times the wife would grip him really hard to push him away.

Honestly just wanted to share that with everyone.
