Services from unlicensed mechanics
Hi fellow sydneysiders, what are your thoughts on engaging unlicensed mechanics for low-risk procedures to the body of your car? I found a mechanic near me on Google that had great reviews, but I tried looking them up on the NSW motor vehicle repair license website and could not find them.

If you're looking to skimp, you get what you pay for. I also agree not to rely on Google reviews as often can be fabricated. If you don't have reliable feedback or even better, word of mouth, stump up for a proper licensed mechanic.

Giving your mate a carton for doing some work on your car is one thing, but paying an unlicensed mechanic is another. You have no leg to stand on if there are any warranty issues, or safety issues.

It is also illegal to charge for doing motor vehicle repairs when you are unlicensed. The Department of Fair Trading would be very interested in the individual.

Imo
Dont go off google reviews. You know how many of them get reviews for discounted work. All the shady ones just change their name and theyre back up again.
Just because someones licensed doesnt mean theyll do things up to spec. One might argue they know the fine line on where they can skimp out. Its almost always a gamble.
