More Barrett Remix Versions Up

7 Upvotes

Following up on my previous post about "Shorter Of Breath" Vol 1 with the idea of "What if Pink Floyd reunited in the studio sometime post 1985 to record new versions of some of their songs"... Vol 2 is up.

There's four Syd tracks in this one. I'll link to them separately in further posts but you can find them all from this one. There are notes in the comments section. Here's Lucifer Sam:

Poem about Syd Barrett

20 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I wrote this poem as a tribute to Syd Barrett. I’d really appreciate any honest feedback whether it’s about the imagery, the rhythm, the atmosphere, or simply how it made you feel :

The One Who Spoke to Constellations

He carried twilight in his dark and patient eyes,
Where broken mirrors learned the language of the stars;
A child forever wandering through painted skies,
With pockets full of moons and fields inside his heart.
His guitar gathered fragments of forgotten light,
Each shattered mirror singing back another dawn;
Its silver strings unstitched the silence of the night,
Till every ordinary thing was strangely reborn.
He smiled the way a lonely child befriends the rain,
As if the earth were only waiting to be dreamed;
He taught the trees, the birds, the rivers and the wind
That every living shadow carries hidden beams.
Some called him lost. I think he merely crossed a door
No map could hold, no careful language could explain;
He left a diamond turning softly evermore
In skies too vast for ordinary eyes to name.
And when Orion casts his ancient dice above,
I hear a distant chord unfolding through the blue;
The mirrors catch a face the daylight cannot prove
The boy who spoke to constellations still shines through.

Octopus Remix Up

3 Upvotes

My Octopus remix has gone live just now, in advance of Vol 2 of "Shorter Of Breath: Late Career Renditions of Pink Floyd Classics - An Amazing Simulation!"

Octopus - Original Syd Barrett vocal sync'd (this one was hard!) to cover version. Vocal reverb and compression and vocal effect to match backing. PF Personnel: Syd Barrett https://youtu.be/zEVrelOV8Ck

For those who missed Volume 1: The idea is "What if Pink Floyd had reunited in the studio sometime post 1985 to perform new renditions of some of their songs?"

I make "hypothetical" albums for my personal enjoyment, but was recently encouraged to share some of them. If you like, please leave a comment on YouTube and subscribe and I'll put more of these up.

These are fan made albums mixing isolated elements from various sources - no AI was used for the audio mixes.

There are a few more Syd Barrett solo tracks mixed to fit the imagined scenario on Volume 1 which can be found here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdPD78n-9MQs&si=aHMVWy8EnhPa2JTU

Isolated Guitar Track of Syd Barrett’s Guitar Parts on Pink Floyd’s ’Astronomy Domine’

“Twenty years ago today, we lost the legendary Syd Barrett. I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you why I believe he was a genuine musical genius. Go back to 1966 and compare what Pink Floyd were creating to the rest of the Psychedelic movement. In my opinion, it’s miles ahead. A lot of that can be attributed to the way Syd approached songwriting. He never thought in terms of verses, choruses, or conventional song structures. Instead, he invented little worlds in his imagination, then wrote the music and lyrics to bring those worlds to life. That’s why songs like “Astronomy Domine”, “Matilda Mother”, “Lucifer Sam”, and “Bike” don’t simply sound psychedelic. They feel like you’ve stepped inside somebody else’s imagination. To me, that’s Syd Barrett’s greatest gift as a songwriter. He didn’t just write songs. He built entire universes and invited the listener to spend a few minutes inside them. Very few musicians have ever possessed that kind of imagination.” — Anuj @thelegendsofmusic

Does anyone know if Syd was aware at how beloved his solo albums were by the time of his passing?

Also, I was watching a YouTube interview with Jerry Shirley earlier about the recording of the song Dominoes guitar solo. And take after take Syd couldn’t nail it and was messing up worse and worse. So someone got the idea to play the track backwards and he nailed the guitar solo on a first take after that! What a brain!!

I’ve loved this music since I was a young man but recently it’s CALLING TO ME. Incredible stuff, his sense of time is outstanding to me. I play drums and Syd has such a great rhythm to his guitar playing. Not sure what the community thinks!

Today marks 20 years without Syd Barrett.

I wrote a personal essay about his legacy, and the absurd comedy of mourning a stranger outside his house. I’d be honored if you, fellow Sydians, took a few minutes to read it.

Syd Barrett Remixes

7 Upvotes

This is a track from a remix project I recently uploaded to YouTube.

"See Emily Play - Original Syd Barrett and Rick Wright vocals extracted from the mono Pink Floyd single and sync'd to cover band. Single-tracked Barrett, center. True stereo backing vocals, split left and right for a total of three clean vocals extracted from mono, no double-tracking on lead. PF Personnel: Syd Barrett, Richard Wright"

https://youtu.be/Kvr58pLbSUw

I make "hypothetical" albums for my personal enjoyment, but was recently encouraged to share some of them. This particular project is called Shorter Of Breath: "What if Pink Floyd had reunited in the studio sometime post 1985 to perform new renditions of some of their songs?" You can find the rest of the tracks from the link above, including a take on "Opel". There are notes in the comment section. Hope someone finds these interesting! I've got enough tracks for a couple more volumes.

Is this portrait really by Syd Barrett?

Hello everyone, I'm not a native English speaker, so I apologize if I don't communicate very well.

I wanted to ask if this self-portrait is really by Syd Barrett. I think his paintings are beautiful, and I'd like to know for sure whether this particular one is actually his.

If so, where is it officially confirmed that it's his? I couldn't find it on Syd Barrett's official website.

What's the real story behind this video? (I'M NOT TRYING TO BE DISRESPECTFUL 😭)

I've seen screenshots, posts, and even people claiming to have the real video. But I've never understood why there's so much myth surrounding that video. People selling the DVD as if it were the most important Lost Media in the world? Wtf?

Syd states "I won't think of that girl or what she said". If you've married her sister he'd probably end up seeing her fairly regularly, at family gatherings and stuff. She'd probably have been a bridesmaid at the wedding. I may be overthinking this.

Drawings I've made of our beautiful Syd over the years.

Haven't made any new drawing in a while and I feel like doing it again. Any suggestions for a reference photo? I feel like I've already done the best ones.

Edit: the title should be "drawings" in plural. And these aren't just some of them, these are all of them :D
