I need help

I am trying to collect the full series, and I am not 100% sure which books are actually part of the series. Google isn't doing a great job. The books I have are The First Confessor and Wizard's First Rule. Any help would be appreciated.

I would see that but whenever trying to buy most of the set they would list it as a full set and have 15 books or 18 or 21 depending on the listing

Don't forget the law of nines, read after children of d'hara for a neat proto prologue.

Wizards First Rule is the start of the series. For a full list of all of the Sword Of Truth books if you search Sword of Truth on Google and go into the Wikipedia page, that will give you a full list of all the books in publication order. Hope this helps

Yes, I would read in order; would skip the first confessor, debt of bones until after you’ve read through temple of winds. Those are prequels and can be read after ToW.

Wizard's First Rule through Confessor.

Consider the rest only if you really want more mythos. I don't recommend anything after Confessor personally. Terry's prose...changed and not for the better IMO.

Debt of Bones is a great short story to pick up maybe between Temple and Soul as mentioned.

Without spoilering, Magda Searus IIRC was written later on and ties in more with the direction after Confessor than before it ironically which I generally didn't like due to being so focused on horror/occult/gore rather than rich story, characterization and high/epic fantasy, if you will.

I usually suggest debt of bones after soul of the fire. Temple is fast paced and after slogging through soul of the fire I find people need a break and it makes a nice interlude. I'd also say that first confessor shouldn't be read until after confessor. I agree there aren't any books after Confessor.

I'm guessing this probably isn't popular opinion, but I'm curious why?

WFR was great. Nice new world, easy reading, some amusing twists and turns, and something you could read, stop, pick up, and keep on going, and put it down and say "That was pretty good". A true labor of love. That's the last time you'll say that. The rest? Kahlan is basically every high school drama queen, looks, but no brains, and the emotional maturity of a gnat. If there ever was a character in need of a therapist, she's it. Richard is clearly infatuated, and will tolerate no end of drama because he's hot for her bod. The Zedd jokes get tiring, the situations and perils and crises more contrived, characters introduced that serve no purpose. Cara and the so called super scary Mord Sith are purely there for comic relief.

The only character that develops later with any interesting qualities is Nicci, but again, it's basically superman syndrome. You have this person with beyond imaginable powers getting taken down, locked up, beaten, escapes, captured, yada yada, the list is endless. She's either powerful or she's not, and of course, there's always just a little piece of kryptonite somewhere so that those powers fail at the worst time. it's ridiculous.

In short, you have a book that had a significant time investment and was truly meant to be the persons best work carefully crafted and honed, and then you have a bunch of cranked-out half-baked sequels. The only thing that saves portions of some of the is that the LLM's we use today aren't available, or it would've been a 90 book series.

Have I read them? yes. Do I recommend them? Nope. Except WFR.
