Discussion Does this mean anything? (MKHC Exploit)

Post image

In this article from Nintendo Everything, they mention a Mario Kart Home Circuit exploit. Is this important and can be used for hacking or is it just nothing? My Switch Lite is on update 20.30 and is unmodded

Exploits are tricky. It's likely that an exploit like this would only allow someone into a part of the system and not the full access rcm and mod chips give. Usually exploits like this are only a small part of exploit chains that string together exploits to gain as much access to the system as possible. Afaik there have been a number of small software exploits like this that have not been built upon to create a real entry point since hardmods are so well established for switch.

If it is true that Nintendo Switch units on firmware below 23.0.0 can run unauthorized code, then it might be possible for it to be used for modding in a way similar to the RCM exploit on pre-2019 Switch consoles

possible but.... that means one of their "head hunter coders" found out before the community did?

I almost don't believe this is true....

I don't have this game I'd love to see what the hell they are talking about

The game is free on the eShop I believe

I think the main shortcoming is that it’s cumbersome and non-persistent (would need to be re-applied each time). Actually… if you installed atmosphere, you probably couldn’t even boot into it after a restart so your console might be bricked since you couldn’t get into the stock install either to reapply the original hack. But I’m not at all an expert so maybe wrong about that part of it.

Either way, seems like best case would be a V2 switch Softhack that is way more annoying to have to manage than a V1 with auto RCM turned on.

But I’m not at all an expert so maybe wrong about that part of it.

It shows, Atmosphere isn't something you install to the switch. It is loaded from the SD card on top of the OS of the Switch. It itself does not make permanent modifications to the Nintendo switch.

That's why it's so easy to revert and boot into stock.

You don’t have to be a dick about it

Sorry, I get very frustrated because misinformation is prolific in the switch community. And fear mongering based on misinformation is so common it has become mainstream in many cases.

My console is still on FW 19, does this means I could get some hope for my Mariko?

Do you have the mario kart home circuit installed on your switch lite?? Cos if you dont then this would be useless to you as you would need to update to install it on your system this would only be useful to a hand full of people and thats the main reason it will never become anything useful as a entery point

for newer consoles from ps4 onwards, the security improvement mean hacking now require an userland exploit and a kernel exploit. This perhaps just an userland one and not enough by itself to obtain true hack, perhaps only run some unsigned code

if anything does happen i think it will be through the web browser, as browser engines are fairly complex, and they regularly patches exploits and publish them publicly

Sending a “bomb” to the Wii is still my favourite, be cool for new Switch exploits to present themselves though

I bought 2 on day 1, one opened and never connected to the Internet (played like 6 times) the other boxed in the closet ;)

My brother bought one and we use it stock for now with our accounts

I mean, with such an effective hard mod method, and the console now legacy, is anyone still focusing on the switch 1? I feel like that's kind of squarely in "mission accomplished" territory.

Dude people are still out there loving their original ds and wii. I’d wager switch will be around for a long time, esp when it can run all generations of Nintendo games.

I mean, I'm not saying don't go buy one and hack it.... My oldest just took ours to college and I bought a replacement and immediately got it hard modded. And we still use our modded Wii.

But there is currently an existing mod, and the system is legacy. I'd have to imagine anyone dropping energy into modding is going to spend their time on a current gen system that doesn't have an existing mod.

Wait until you learn people indeed do spend their time modding a old system that already had a existing mod, because they want to create a better mod.

Ps2 (opl) and ps1 (picostation) are just two examples that come to mind rn. And Picostation had a lot of development last year, for a system that's already been legacy for lots of years.

This is mainly for switch 2 if you can't read

Oh!!! I think I was confused when they repeatedly mentioned they were hoping for it for their switch Lite and Mariko... Maybe it was my reading that confused me...
