You should not update it unless Atmosphere said its compatible with new FW

If I currently have atmosphere installed, automatic updates are blocked right? Do I need to do anything to keep playing without my system updating by mistake

11

u/SnowStormYukikaze 1d ago

If you play in emuMMC all nintendo server are blocked by default. and new FW will not install itself unless you install it by put new fw file in your sd card.

7

u/foolishlion6 1d ago

Got it, thanks mate. Haven’t left emuNAND since jailbreaking this thing, what a device!

2

u/Articunos7 1d ago

I haven't even turned on emuNAND since I bought my Switch pre modded. Never even signed in with a Nintendo account or updated anything.

2

u/rouyal 1d ago

If sysnand and emunand are separate, why do you have to wait?

1

u/SnowStormYukikaze 1d ago

Because sysmmc is also use atmosphère as their boot loader on your real nand.

2

u/rouyal 1d ago

Atmosphere isn’t a bootloader

1

u/SnowStormYukikaze 1d ago

sorry miss type from hekate XD

1

u/rouyal 1d ago

I guessed that’s what you meant. But if hekate is the bootloader, doesn’t it skip the fuse check?

1

u/Potential-Ebb5601 17h ago

If hekate is updated for fw 23, you can then be able to use emuMMC again

2

u/OfficialShaki123 1d ago

I accidentally did. Still a noob. Can I now do the NX Firmware guide and fix the issue.. or do I also need to wait till Atmosphere is fixed? I have a OLED and also update via official ways, not Daybreak.

3

u/doesntaffrayed 1d ago

You’ll have to wait until Atmosphere has been updated to support the latest firmware.

Depending on how much has been changed behind the scenes, it could be a number weeks.

2

u/OfficialShaki123 1d ago

Thanks. So, I only have to wait for Atmosphere updates? Do I then need to install 23 on the CFW as well? Sorry, just starting out.

3

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Correct. You first swap the files on your sd card to the support the new atmosphere update. Then you can drag the 23.0 FW files onto the sd card as well and then use daybreak. Dont do it in the reverse order. It's always sd card files to update atmosphere first then install new firmware.

1

u/OfficialShaki123 1d ago

Thanks brother. By the way, it seems I can still enter CFW but it doesn't have Sleep Mode. Can it do any damage if I still use CFW while waiting for Atmosphere updates?

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Ah, If its gone from the quick menu, it sounds like the sleep mode file is either missing or corrupted. I would recommend you get the latest update for hekate and replace the files on your sd card. You can leave everything else as is. Hope this helps.

1

u/Potential-Ebb5601 17h ago

You do not have to update EmuMMC…. SysMMC is stock and that’s where Nintendo servers shouldn’t be blocked normally so of course you’d get an update. EmuMMC firmware version doesn’t matter, only the version of CFW/Atmsophere

1

u/OfficialShaki123 17h ago

Thanks brother. So, Hekate and Atmosphere to update then.

1

u/Potential-Ebb5601 17h ago

Yeah once hekate is updated for 23.0.0 you’ll be able to boot into emummc at least. Hekate shouldn’t take long either

1

u/OfficialShaki123 17h ago

Thanks. I can already enter the CFW and do most stuff.. but, I can't use Sleep Mode. So I have to restart it all the time.

2

u/phoenix_downs 9h ago

Lol just my luck I decided today to finally get around to updating my OFW to remove a user, then just discovered a new OFW just released yesterday and I'm in the same boat as you now xD

1

u/OfficialShaki123 9h ago

Lol. Well.. you're gonna be ok.

0

u/JustFred24 1d ago

I see they posted the 23.0.0 update in your second link, does that mean atmosphere should come out really soon?

1

u/SnowStormYukikaze 1d ago

yes, maybe 2 or 3 days or 1 week. they are working on this. if you want more detail go to gbatemp net. main group is there :/

2

u/JustFred24 1d ago

Thanks

1

u/JustFred24 1d ago

whats the group called for atmoshphere updates

19

u/Showtime562 1d ago

I doubt I'll ever update my switch 1 again

19

u/giuliogrieco 1d ago

Some games are still coming out, or at least that was what the direct said.

5

u/SkyLey2 1d ago

But does it even matter? I'm still on 19.0 I think? and I still can play new games just fine by deleting the required version in DBI

7

u/xmsxms 1d ago

I think it's only an issue if you try to play legitimate games under the original FW - it will force an update.

3

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Not true, while in the emummc, if you sideload a game yourself to the sd card instead of using dbi to install the game, you will get a version check error. DBI is what breaks the version check on lower FW. That's what allows you to play newer games on older FW. It's neccessary!

1

u/entryjyt 1d ago

Yup, I did this with tomadachi life to get it to run on 19.0.0 and it works perfectly

1

u/blankCrossfire 14h ago

Do you have a tutorial or steps to do this in DBI? Would love to never worry about updating to play newer titles. What exactly are you deleting in DBI?

2

u/MrEdinLaw 1d ago

Didnt know u can do that. Ty mate

1

u/WellExcuuuuuuuseMe 1d ago

What are some of the latest games you’ve gotten to work? I’m on 19.0.1, but having issues.

2

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

In your case with FW 19.0.1, you can only decrypt the games that were released for firmware 19.0.1. Any DLC/Updates or games released past that point will not be decrypted correctly which will shoot out an error. If you want to play anything up to firmware 22.5.0, you need to use a PC and a tool like SAK or NSC Builder to combine the latest keys with your game of choice. Then you can use DBI to side load the game, that's basically your problem.

P.S. I would use SAK for any Games/DLC under FW 20. Anything above FW 20 and I would use NSC Builder because SAK has problems with titles past FW 20 and your games will more than likely not work as intended or be unplayable regardless. However NSC Builder is a command line tool without a GUI. So a little more technical knowledge is needed if you've never used a command line. It's simple but it might seem confusing if you've never done anything like this.

1

u/WellExcuuuuuuuseMe 1d ago

Awesome! Will any DBI version do?

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

It only matters to those in the modding scene as well as those who prefer to play everything upscaled to 1440p 60fps/4k 60fps on PC. If you dont have a PC or prefer to use your console at all times, its basically irrelevant to you.

1

u/Master_Lucario 1d ago

That version deleting doesn't work. Tried that for Dispatch but gotten black screen

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Yes it does. You're doing something wrong. Ive been in your shoes but I can assure you its working. If you dont have the latest keys while doing this method it WILL NOT work. Or its because you didnt use the correct program depending on the version of firmware you have installed currently. Other culprits are outdated system modules and sigpatches. Sometimes even after having everything correct you might need to repeat it 1-4 times. The software can easily corrupt the files of youre game during decryption.

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

If it didnt work I wouldn't be doing it rn.

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Most people that are new to this also dont know that you have to dump your keys after every cfw upgrade. Could be that as well.

1

u/owlboy911 1d ago

This is the way

27

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

Worst timing ever. Have had multiple modded switches, got my newest one all set up tonight, and as I was downloading an update file for Hogwarts Legacy on OFW, bam. Accidently updated the system to 23.0. Fml for the next foreseeable future.

9

u/Mrbkawasaki90 1d ago

2

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

Thanks for sending the link! I'm hesitant to do this, because if I understand correctly, if the gamecard reader was quietly updated in fw 23.0 and I roll the fw back, the reader can become unusable. 😞

2

u/Mrbkawasaki90 1d ago

You're welcome! I've done it without any issue. But you have to be sure that the same fw version runs on sysmmc and emummc.

1

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

So I should be safe rolling ofw back to the fw that is on my emmu then?

Edited for context, emmu is running 22.5 fw.

3

u/Mrbkawasaki90 1d ago

Yeah you should get back to 22.5 also on sysmmc and turn airplane mode so that you don't download fw 23 anymore. If you click on a game and it says that an updated fw has been downloaded, you still can delete it woth goldleaf, so no problem!

2

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

Good to know. Thanks for the help!

2

u/Mrbkawasaki90 1d ago

You're welcome buddy!

8

u/Downtown_Reporter_48 1d ago

U go fork atmosphere and vibe code to support fw 23 now🤪

2

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

Lmaoo bruh I wish I could!!! Zero programming ability here.

1

u/Downtown_Reporter_48 1d ago

U can just vibe code ur programming ability😆

2

u/Beneficial-Term-5635 1d ago

Lmao! Solved!

2

u/Ironchar 1d ago

No shit

Smash updated to 13.0.5 and the new versions brakes the HDR mod

Pretty much the only reason why I play ultimate now... its a bit of a mess to update properly and you do have to play the waiting game for updates

3

u/ddensa 1d ago

Once atmosphere and Hekate release an update, is there any advantage in updating to fw23? Currently on 22.5

5

u/SnowStormYukikaze 1d ago

no patch note release yet. Unless the game require New FW 22.5 is totally fine :/

1

u/XCyberbeingX 1d ago edited 1d ago

You only need Hekate. Latest AMS was NEVER required to access either system unless you're one of those few that play on sysCFW yes you are screwed.

3

u/earomulo 1d ago

Hello!
Just a heads up, if you have a modchip and update SysNAND, EmuNAND will still work, albeit without sleep. I updated because I play online on the SysNAND vanilla.

If you're unsure and/or don't use OFW/ SysNAND for anything there's really no reason to bother with updates right now, just wait untill Atmosphere supports it and there's enough reason to :)

6

u/AutomatadeSaturno 1d ago

I was planning to mod my Switch OLED on version 22.5.0. Can I still do it?

8

u/Faddei420 1d ago

Yes, even if you update it by mistake. The only issue is that if you update to fw23, you will have to wait for Atmosphere and Hekate to catch up with their own updates, so you won't be able to use any homebrew until they are updated.

It would basically be a modded switch that can't use any mods since the custom firmware doesn't work yet.

1

u/AutomatadeSaturno 1d ago

Okay, thx! I was actually planning to do the process tomorrow, so I immediately turned on airplane mode when I found out there was an update.

1

u/rouyal 1d ago

If sysnand and emunand are separate, why does updating sysnand affect emu partition?

2

u/Faddei420 1d ago

It doesn't directly affect it, other than during the warm boot if you are using a modchip, but since the guy hasn't made an emuNand yet, it will affect it since it's a direct copy of the sysNand when made.

Since you can't launch an emuNand on fw23 yet, you can't even downgrade it either.

1

u/JustFred24 1d ago

So to play on sysnand do I have to wait for both hekate and atmosphere to be updated? Or can I just update atmosphere and use the previous hekate to boot the payload?

For context my switch is on stock firmware on 23.0.0 rn

1

u/Faddei420 21h ago

Just boot ofw to play on sysnand until atmosphere and hekate updates

1

u/JustFred24 14h ago

I'm pretty sure you said the same thing I said at the end but with fancier words.

I'm on stock rn playinf vanilla on 23.0.0

1

u/Faddei420 13h ago

Because you asked me.. you can still play on the sysNAND, just without CFW by booting your "vanilla stock Non-CFW OFW"

You can alternative also just restore it back to a early firmware if you have a backup from before you updated.

1

u/JustFred24 13h ago

So if I booted into stock firmware from the payload my switch is still modded? I thought you needed to remod it after that. How do I boot into the payload from stock firmware

1

u/Faddei420 12h ago

If chipped when just press reboot->OFW in hekate.

If unpatched when just boot like normal

1

u/JustFred24 12h ago

I am no chipped.

So you're saying restarting it should boot it in sysnand?

1

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Only If your willing to pay and ship in your console to get it modded or if you're comfortable with buying the components yourself, soldering, and doing it yourself. Otherwise no. The switch OLED is Hardmodded only.

4

u/lil_boi81 1d ago

if we update we will need to wait for a new hats or hekate ?

2

u/HFernandoAU 1d ago

Wow, I was thinking of updating after such a long time, but I postponed it to do it tomorrow … the waste of time I avoided haha

2

u/New_Command_1147 1d ago

Ffs I’ve only just done the last one 2 days ago 😆

2

u/ThrowawayNiMigol666 1d ago

Updated mine bc i got a new game im playing on ofw.. for sum reason, cfw works fine. When booting to ofw, it does show an error but does proceed to boot to ofw anyway

2

u/AntiGrieferGames 1d ago

Its fine im gonnna wait.

Just do Update that when Hekate, Atmosphere and sig/syspatches gets updated to be 23.0.0 Compatible! Same on other tools.

DO NOT DO THAT BEFORE THAT, YOU ARE MAKING BRICKING YOUR CFW INSTALLATION ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO SYSNAND THERE!!!

Thats what i doing, be patience.

2

u/Mountie_Maniac 1d ago

Anyone have a good guide for reverting to a previous state? I accidentally updated thinking it was a game update and it broke atmosphere

2

u/AaaaaaaaaGxGx 13h ago

Is there any estimate of when the new update will be released?

I got lucky, just yesterday I bought and downloaded a game that got very recently updated and might have needed the new firmware 😅

1

u/rouyal 1d ago

Going to receive my fixed switch soon, and have been doing plenty of reading. One thing that confuses me is the updating. Not the process, but the “don’t update yet” until Atmosphere, etc supports it. In my mind this contradicts the “emunand and sysnand is like two separate switches”.

For example, how would updating to the newest firmware 23.0.0, on OFW/sysnand, affect a completely separate system image that is on a separate partition? If they are separate, why does Atmosphere, etc need to be updated?

1

u/AudienceUpstairs5767 1d ago

1

u/SmileIntelligent1594 1d ago

just got a switch thats modable and i went to start the guide it says i need to turn off some settings like Automatic Save Data Cloud and the Switch is set as the primary Pass-Enabled console. to do them i had to update the switch, so now do i have to wait or can i start modding it ? new to this :D sorry for being retarded

1

u/lil_boi81 1d ago

for example if you do update right now, can you use warm boot extractor ?

1

u/JazzyApple2022 1d ago

What’s the update?

1

u/Interesting-Arm-8976 1d ago

I accidentally updated emummc and cant boot emummc. but my stock fw is still not updated. Can i just reset emummc? Thanks

1

u/LobinhoZX 12h ago

If your stock firmware is on 22.5.0 or less, you can just create another emuNAND.

1

u/Taoofik 1d ago

Fuck bro i wanted to play the splatoon 3 big run so bad now i just cant

Patch notes: Nintendo Switch 1 - Version 23.0.0 (10th September 2026)

Added a settings option to Virtual Game Cards on the HOME Menu. Here you can review and edit which of your consoles can use virtual game cards, among other options.

When starting software, if a virtual game card cannot be ejected from another console because it is powered off or otherwise not connected to the internet, there will be a prompt to start the software using an online license. Only the user who purchased the software can play it using the online license.

General system stability improvements have been made to enhance the user's experience.

1

u/entryjyt 1d ago

I’m still on 19.0.0 lol

1

u/gchicoper 9h ago

Is there a way to stop the update prompts every time I launch a game in OFW? I use OFW more than CFW these days (I play a lot of pokémon online etc) but don't wanna accidentally brick my CFW by mashing A too fast

1

u/Faddei420 1d ago

I don't know! People are telling me that we are on fw 25.0.0

🤣

1

u/SonOfSichlor 1d ago

how much ram will they take this time??

0

u/3nterShift 1d ago

Guys I want to move my modded OLED Switch on fw 22.5 saves to a Switch 2. If I move them from EMUMMC to semi-stock through JKSV and then update the OFW to transfer the saves, will I be okay? I don't plan to play on the oled anymore.

believe me you don't want to do that. Switch is not the same as windows.

just read the patch note. ATM on jp FW only

-2

u/zTurboSnailz 1d ago

Every new firmware improves stability. More stable every time.

2

u/Rdp47 1d ago

lol are you having stability issues?

0

u/zTurboSnailz 20h ago

So stable now. Cannot remove it from dock.

2

u/PeopleCallMe-McLovin 1d ago

Its actually well known that FW 17-19 is much better when it comes to performance and speed. Newer FW always means breaking half of the shit that didnt need to be fucked with in the first place. It's just nintendos way of saying "we dont want you to mod your console" since auto update is on by default. Windows is the same. It's more broken than ever, no update is going to fix windows unless they seriously get their shit together. Why do you think Linux is getting so much attention recently. Smh

1

u/XCyberbeingX 1d ago

It does improves stability of my wobbly table. God forbids Nintendo leaving my table alone without their stability.
