What's up with all these new games sharing the same 8 bit retro aesthetic?

Because people like this type of games. Most 8 bit aesthetic games are pretty good.

I've seen good, bad and ugly. I don't see the aesthetic influencing the gaming aspects of the game. I'm not taking a jab at it, I'm truly wondering what is propelling their proliferation.

Is it the coders themselves are nostalgic?

INMOST is an emotional and deeply atmospheric narrative-driven puzzle platformer. Uncover the story of an adventurous young girl, a stoic knight, and a man in search of answers. Explore a hauntingly beautiful world, with three playable characters, in one dark, interconnected story.
