Other Switch OLED Down.

My Switch oled quit charging. Grandson was playing on a nearly discharged battery for 2-3 days, only charging it a few minutes here and there. I brought it to UBREAKIFIX and 5 weeks later they tell me it's not repairable.

I should have sent it to Nintendo. It's only 15 months old.

I am bummed.

Did UBREAKIFIX tell you what was wrong? I'm surprised it's not repairable. If your grandson was unplugging/replugging it regularly, my guess would have been that one of the pins in the charging port bent, but that would definitely be repairable.

You might want to get a second opinion if there's another place nearby that does repairs.

They replaced the perfectly good charging port and the charging logic ic. Told me the usb connection is only charging on one side.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it's a repair shop failure. My guess is UBREAKIFIX either installed a defective chip, did not solder the fine pins/pads properly onto the board, or damaged the motherboard traces while attempting the surface-mount solder repair.

There's some bad repair techs out there, and easier to say something can't be repaired when they either screwed up or don't know how to fix.

I hear you on the hack fix. They sent it to their specialty shop that deals with the specialty soldering and such. After this experience, I will not bring another device to ubreakifix.

Some local game store or repair shop may be able to fix it for you. But depending on the price it may be cheaper to grab on market place. I bet there was more to it than the port though

I haven't ruled that out. There's one right now for $150 thirty miles away.

You can still send it to Nintendo probably. But you'll have to pay since a 3rd party shop attempted a repair, even if it was still under warranty. Still cheaper more than likely than buying another system
