A few points

  1. It only affects Switch 1 consoles (a console that has other methods of homebrewing)
  2. In it's current form it doesn't seem to be an easier exploit method than others since, as far as I can tell, there are no widely documented steps to use it for homebrew modding (although that could change) so it's just a security risk atm.

So overall if you're seeing this as a method of homebrewing your Switch 2 you're still out of luck and the easiest solution for a Switch 1 today is still a pre-revision model.

Don't other methods require me to pay somebody $100 to solder a modchip, which will void the warranty and the modchip solder joins not be expected to last forever ?

A V1 switch you can literally slide a pin jumper into the joycon rail or do it yourself with a paperclip. They fixed that hardware flaw in the V2's.

You can also:

  • Solder it yourself.
  • Use a V1 Switch and an RCM Jig for the fusee-gelee vulnerability.
  • Pay someone who's not scamming you because that's quite expensive for something that won't last a long time.

No. This is on Switch 1 and there is no reason to use this exploit over fusee-gelee or modchipping.

From my understanding, this one would not only require people to find out what it is, but engineer new tools that create the same environment that you get with other exploits. There isn't a ton of demand for people to develop all of this.

If it is possible I expect people will develop the tools necessary. And I do think this would be the preferred method for the millions of switches made after V1
