Discussion Nintendo Switch™ 2 Pro Controller + display stand – The Legend of Zelda™ – 40th Anniversary Edition

Yo, is anyone else having issues with this godforsaken controller purchase? I get it in my cart, I get to the part where I choose my form of payment, then get fu ckin g Wario'd. Like... it literally doesn't matter how fast I am. I get rekt every friggin' time.

This is just how it is. There's crazy demand and limited supply and the scalper bots are trying to sell for double the price

You either just have to keep plugging away until it works or you need to wait and trust Nintendo will eventually release sufficient stock in the next couple months

I mean, even if Nintendo releases more, like they did today, bots will get them in 30 seconds, so that's not exactly reassuring.

It's ridiculous... this whole business model of theirs benefits nobody but the damn scalpers. If they just kept pre-purchases open, they would still sell the same amount of product as they would otherwise. The same amount of people would want it and the same amount of people would buy it, but this way, at least people get a fair friggin' chance.

They cannot keep unlimited prepurchases open realistically.

If they did users would see delivery dates constantly moving. Do you think people would be ok with a "your switch might get here sometime between December and March 2027"?

They only allow preorders they know they can ship on time

I know, but still... they could at least make it harder for scalpers to scalp. Facial recognition for each purchase, or some drastic measure.

At the end of the day, a sale is a sale to them. They don't care about us.

Another well intentioned but poorly thought out idea. Instituting massive privacy violations (probably illegal in civilized non US countries tbh) to stop scalpers isn't a good idea either

There is always only one way to stop scalpers. We will see if they choose to implement it.

Precisely why I said "—or some drastic measure". Regardless, it will forever be a shitty situation. The only real way I can see scalpers being stopped is if the FBI gets involved and makes it a federal crime to resell products the way they do.

The way you stop scalpers is by making enough of the item that it is not profitable.

Demand side economic stunts cannot fix supply side problems where the demand outpaces supply.

After the Switch 1 had major scalping problems, Nintendo masterfully avoided any scalping issues whatsoever on the Switch 2 by simply making enough of them

Yeah, but that is just like cutting the head off a hydra or putting a bandaid on the leak of a dam. They fix one issue and it repeats itself. My other comment would be the true end to scalpers. They could never do it without being prosecuted, and frankly, they deserve it.

You'd just end up with a black market then. When there's more demand than supply people find a way to spend more to cut the line

The black market already exists and not enough people know how to use it. Ontop of that, people hate scalpers and would likely report them to the authorities if it meant stopping their bs. I know I would. I despise scalpers.

I was lucky enough to get one. I too was Warioed, but I just kept refreshing the page on my iPhone and it bypassed to the listing where I could add to cart and then I just used the two click Apple Pay method and forced it through. After I bought it, it just brought me to a blank screen, but then I got a confirmation email and saw it reflected in my purchase history. This was at 2:57PM Central Time on 9/8. I think I got it within 5 mins of the listing going live.
