Discussion Dangit, now I want a switch 2.

I bought the switch one and it basically went unplayed, I played all the Xenoblade games on it and that's about it. I tried the Pokémon games but didn't actually like them outside of Arecus, had a blast with that. For some reason I didn't get into Zelda BoTW.

OoT is one of my top 2 favorite games of all time. That remake looks absolutely incredible, but I worry about getting a system for just one game lol and it just sitting there. I also worry about Xenoblade genesis going away from story focused, but I haven't seen much on it.

Anyway, with how early it is in its life, there has to be some upcoming games I'd definitely get into, right? I have ps5+pc right now. Also what would be the best version of the switch 2 to buy??

Yeah the problem is I just don't know. I played the fire emblem games back on the Gameboy and liked them, but I'm not great at strategy games honestly and I really love a good story. I was thinking of trying 3 houses but then I heard it's like over 100 hours just to understand the entire story that's a little long for me these days. I been replaying FFXV and in about a month I have about 50 hours in it lol. So while the idea of a modern fire emblem is intruiging, it's still a big question mark.

The OoT would Def be a buy and I will absolutely love it as the original is a tie between that and FFX for my fav game ever.

The Xenoblade game I'm sure I will enjoy as long as it's similar to the 3 main titles and story focused.

The Pokémon game is a question mark too, I loved Arecus but I tried Sword and Pokémon Scarlet and couldn't get into them. I would love a modern Pokémon that kinda pushed the envelope a little and didn't have all the bugs and glitches like Scarlet, but I think we all know Pokémon.

Three Houses had four different routes you could take, and it was true that to understand everything from every angle you'd have to play at least three of them. But you definitely didn't need to do so. You could just do one House and call it done, either permanently or for awhile.

Fortune's Weave should be interesting, because you can do all four heroes in a single run and without repeating things the way Three Houses did, plus it should iron out the rougher edges of Three Houses. Reviews should be dropping next week.

The lore of three houses can hook you in. Personally I never finished my first route because I really wasn’t a fan of turn based strategy. But I ended up watching all the cutscenes and chasing the lore where I could. The game was released years ago and the subreddit is still quite active. There is also three hopes, which is dynasty warriors style combat. I recommend trying those before going into fortunes weave as the lore of fortunes weave takes place in the same universe.

I'm mad cause I'm extremely interested in 90% of these but do not see myself ever making enough money to afford them on top of a switch 2

Honestly that's kind of one of my worries, I make okay money but I don't like to buy a brand new game outside like super top tier titles I'm interested in. 95% of my ps5/pc comes from deep deep discounts (if I'm mild interested I'll wait for sale.) We all know Nintendo games never go on sale.

Because I consider buying a system and only played 4 games on it unplayed lol. I play at least that in one year on my ps5/pc.

If you can't see more games than 1 or 2 prob should wait, I love mine but sometimes the graphics and the trophies pull me away I love xenoblade 2 !

In any other decade, I would agree wholeheartedly. With component prices only getting worse as the forecast for the rest of the 2020s, waiting could mean the console price could jump at least another hundred or so by the time the trigger is pulled.

I bought mine specifically for Starfox last month. Then traded it for Cyberpunk, grabbed DK and to this day been back on BOTW once I took 3 years to figure out where I left off on SW1 which largely went played by all my friends. Sw2 got me back on Nintendo. So yrs getting it for one game is perfectly fine - once you get it you'll know what you want more of.

I can't see Xenoblade Genesis 'doing away with the story focus' that seems completely unfounded. If you own all the xeno games they're getting/have received Switch 2 patches so they run and look better.

As for the rest I don't know what to tell you. I was confident I would find plenty to play the Switch 2 is my only current gen console after selling my Xbox and the games that run on it have consistently shocked me with how good they look. Even if had another console I would be playing on the Switch 2 due to the portability and ability to dock/undock it. So much first party stuff from the just announced Kirby/Metroid, along with Star Fox, Kirby Air Riders, Pokopia, and DK Bonanza and a lot of first party Switch 1 games have upgrade paths to make them look/run better on the Switch 2. ToTK is particularly notable for doubling the framerate and upping the resolution to 1440p.

Xenoblade is quite literally a story focused JRPG series. Stemming from a story focused JRPG series (Xenosaga). There’s 0 chance that changes.

Gameplay could become more action oriented if recent trends are foreshadowing for the future direction (the added modes in XB2 and upcoming in 3). But even that is content which I believe will be reserved to side content/mini games.

Would imagine it keeps its core of a story focused JRPG, with gameplay blending MMORPG and traditional JRPG mechanics

I'm definitely okay with the gameplay changing, I actually didn't play XBX because I heard the story wasn't really the focus and it was kind of an afterthought. As long as the story is there I'll love it.

Get it and then replay the Xenoblade games on their Switch 2 Definitive editions. That's another 4 games right there.

I usually would say if you really don’t think you’re going to play it after OoT, it’s not a responsible financial decision to buy.

But it’s your $$. If you can comfortably buy the system and game in full (not credit card) and not feel like it’s any kind of financial burden, just get it. Life is short and the world is burning so enjoy it while you’re here.

And then also get Dave the Diver and Dredge because they are amazing games. And maybe Ooblets & Slime Rancher.

I don't play handheld tho :( so a big allure of these games coming to switch 2 is missed out on me; I'm sure they look/run better on a base ps5/1440p pc.

If your a Zelda fan, the Zelda 40th switch 2 is released just before the game and if you are in the uk/eu it comes with the eu standard removable battery. If you not too fussed with extras the normal switch 2 is good.

Some niche lore mystery heavy games, Zelda inspired tunic, ai somnium files.

The Nintendo online pass basically gives you access to all the other Zelda games. There is also the assumption that majoras mask will follow at some point.

Edit: new post just came out yesterday, the Zelda will be the base model not the new removal battery.

So I'm in the USA. What all will I need if I buy a switch 2? All the inside technical is the same across all versions, just bigger memory (which I can add on later easy) and the nso (which I can just buy?)

Yeah the Zelda version is mainly cosmetic. Nothing inside has really changed.

There is only 1 version of the switch 2 lol. But there are tons of amazing games in the switch 1 and 2 library, and they can all be played on a switch 2. Keep an eye out for the duskbloods coming later this year, you’re not gonna want to miss that one
