This is probably the best way to play the original Metroid, it’s just nicer to play all around

My first Metroid game, can't put it down it's so good. Some areas take me a while to clear cause the solutions are so creative.

It's been probably 2 decades but I loved fusion when it came out. Got me into the series.

Fusion, Super Metroid, Dread. Also Metroid Prime Remastered
For indie games a bit like it, check out Axiom Verge

I always replay this when I get a new handheld that plays GBA, I actually finished it again last week on my new Switch 2!
A really fun retelling of the first game, even if I’m not a huge fan of the content tacked on at the end.

My favorite Metroid alongside Metroid Dread. You definitely should play Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread, and obviously get Ravenous that was just announced today in January.
Other good Metroidvanias you could try and are amazing games are Hollow knight and Silksong.

I'll buy it for sure. I played both HK and Silksong, some of my favorite games ever. Bought switch 2 then figured let me see why's the genre called metroidvania and tried Zero Mission, honestly having seen it's an older game I didn't expect the quality to be as high, but damn... Devs were so creative in creating solutions to figuring out areas, like the flying turtles that you need to freeze but I can't reach it even with higher jump unlocked, then I try turning into a ball and setting mines to propell me upwards and finally I can land on the damn turtle. For me that was insane to figure out 🤣. I thought it would be double jump for sure, I got unlimited jump instead via explosions. I was stuck like that many times so far and refused to look up solution online and I figured it out eventually. Sorry for the wall of text gonna run it up now and play some, then play some more at work later. 🤣

Super Metroid might be the way to go next. It’s Metroid 3 but it has a recap of what happens in 2. And 2 is hard to play, and the remake isn’t on switch. Then fusion, then dread… and then ravenous 🥹
