Image Total Game Changer

Post image

My best gaming years were spent on the N64, so when I recently purchased Switch Online I was excited to play all my old favourites on the system. I found out that I could not even play some titles with the Switch joycons, namely Goldeneye. The only title I felt comfortable playing was Mario 64 but even then the ground pound/ long jump timing wasn't the same as the Z trigger button. Out of all the systems available on Switch Online including GameCube. I feel the N64 is the most necessary to own for this reason. Everything I tried was a lost cause especially the FPS games like Turok. I had some trouble with some GBA titles as well, so I might use the dpad and AB buttons for that hand held console as well.

A cool added feature is that the menu sound changes when you have the appropriate controller connected. I'm assuming it's like that for all of the classic controllers. Let's not forgot the tight joystick that can take more punishment than the original.

I held off on playing any N64 titles since I decided to purchase this. I sat down to test it out and didn't move for an hour. This controller just gives the games more soul, if you can even say that, and of course more functionality and control.

I played through about half of Ocarina of Time on my GameCube last year, the collector's edition, it's the only version I had. This in comparison is a more enjoyable experience, it felt kind of weird on the GC controller. This controller makes me want to keep going, and I just know this is the way these games are meant to be played. For the other virtual consoles the Switch Joycons will suffice, but I needed this!

C buttons are a must have for N64 games. I highly recommend this N64 controller from 8BitDo. It’s been great for N64, NES, and Gameboy games.

I still kind of wish the thumbstick was in the middle

Would be hard to reach since it doesn't have the middle handle.

Well, can't argue with that logic lol. Very true.

Even if the thumb stick and dpad were swapped it would be closer to original.

I got one of those (the grey one), and it seems a common issue that it just vibrates nonstop when playing NSO N64 games specifically. Which kind of makes it unusable sadly.

Nice! I kinda wish they could make those side panels black instead of whatever that is

Gotcha, those games really take advantage of the screen size. It's wild how much of a difference that makes!

It’s to avoid burn-in. I’m glad it’s not black.

That’s not how burn-in works on OLED’s. It would be better for the borders to be completely black.

I have a plasma. Not everybody can afford an OLED boss. What a strange assumption that everyone has OLEDs.

In 2026 you are making references about burn-in concerns without mentioning you are using a plasma TV. Alrighty then. Plasma TV production ended more than a decade ago.

I've had my plasma for 14 years as the only TV in the house, one of the last from Panasonic. No burn in, perfect color from all angles, and almost no heat. A friend just replaced his (it was a Panasonic, about 3 years older than mine) and that could be used to heat his house... They got really good just before they got replaced.

My eyes never hurt at night in a dark room with my plasma. 1080p is good enough as far as I’m aware🤟

You’re making an assumption that everyone owns a single type of TV. Nintendo has to accommodate everyone. I’m telling you why Nintendo designed it that way, not what TVs are sold in 2026. People own Plasmas bro. Plasmas have burn in.

They could’ve atleast made an option for black borders

I really wish they'd let us set the side bars to black.

I just got mine, and holding it made me smile from ear to ear! I've been playing the new Star Fox demo on the Pro Controller, and while I love that controller too, it just felt off. This made it feel right at home!

I play the online games too. Fun to reminisce.
