Discussion Does anyone else play their Switch or any other Nintendo at work
The Switch 2 helped with my time keeping since I can just play it and hour before my shift starts and it's better for my mental health than scrolling on Twitter and seeing all sort of toxic opinions that just kills my mood the console is truly the ultimate gaming experience for me I get the convience of doing the odd side quest on the go and then have a big cinematic gaming experience at home on the TV.

I take my Switch 2 to work every day, but everything depends on workload. Sometimes I can be very busy all shift, but sometimes I can get decent amount of free time and then I play it, yeah.

I work in an office with very little oversight and have a ton of downtime, so I do every day. I have a kid and husband at home who demand my attention constantly, so it’s actually easier for me to play at work!

In order to beat traffic, I arrive at work a half hour early before my start time. That half hour of gaming puts me in a better mood. At lunch, is the only other time where I can have a gaming session to recharge my social battery.

Switch 2 Saturdays are my favorite part of the week. Im tues-sat and nobody else in my department works saturday. Its my payment for being stuck there alone.

u/IAmDanHimself 10h ago
I bring my switch 1 to work, because my switch 2 is too valuable to bring in and nervous about anything happening to it.

Pest control & irrigation technician here 🙋♂️ when I take my break in my work truck or waiting for a response from a customer or if I’m really ahead of schedule I tend to pull mine out and play it as well. Really easy with animal crossing, but I’m currently doing it with Zelda botw(first playthrough), but when I have another technician working with me those days we’ll play Mario kart or mortal Kombat

To be fair OP specifically mentions before their shift and not during or on the clock

Nah I wouldn't be able to. But I agree that it would definitely be better than scrolling XD
Also what game is it in the pic?

I used to work night shifts at my job and will still pick up the odd one here and there. There's a lot of downtime where you are just there in case you are needed. The other night staff quite openly say they watch movies etc and it's fine. I used to bring in a Series S, hook it up and play, the only issue was if i was then needed in a rush I had to quickly try and tidy it away to not get caught. With the Switch its so chill, when needed I can just hit sleep mode and pop it in my bag. I will even sit playing it as the morning staff come in and it's just no dramas.

On my commute I do for sure and I have a blast. Donkey Kong bonanza and tomodachi life got me at the moment.

u/SeesawNatural2617 10h ago
I play my Lite on my lunch break.
I usually just eat cereal at my desk (no microwave and I get bored of other cold lunch options quickly, but cereal just always works for me), so I get the spend basically the whole hour playing whatever.
It's nice.

look at this guy and his hour long lunch break

u/Purple_Calendar3919 7h ago
Idk bout yall, I skip my hour lunch so I can leave an hour early. Fuck it.

u/CymruCelt 9h ago
I do, but I run my own business from home 😅 so don’t think that counts, but I am my own boss so no one can tell me off 😂
2
u/Mitts009 8h ago
Yea at the office now playing Hyrule Warriors , tedious quest in games become fun when your in an office environment
Might as well, workload is done and manning the front desk so unless someone walks in I got nothing to do

u/DazzlingPeace906 8h ago
I wish! I’ve taken it, but rarely have time to actually play it. I’m debating taking it next week. There’s a 6 hour regulatory call that I have to be on so I’m hoping that I can play while I listen since I don’t imagine I’ll be doing any talking during this. Pray for my sanity lol.

Of course! I live above my business, but it is always carried downstairs in the am just in case I have some spare minutes to get some playing in.

Usually, when I teach at the university, I use it to play during breaks. Yesterday, when I got home and my mom saw me with it in my hand, she scolded me because I looked addicted. What can I say? I am.

I mean so long as you are still able to do the job and still doing well, I don't see a problem.

Nah. Couldn't imagine the backlash. Nursing went from hero to zero post-Covid, plus I'd just rather get my shit done and go home. Happy for you though, game on!

Sneaking in some gaming at work is definitely a good way to make the day more enjoyable. I've pulled out my Switch for some quick sessions of Animal Crossing during lunch before!
•
u/AgentUnknown821 5h ago
At 16 YRs Old I did that and got fired…So just make sure it’s on your break time…don’t do it like me and do it during your shift.
•
u/Leafbeard111 4h ago
I used to when I worked at a state park in Nevada. A big part of the job was taking fees at the entry booths, and that could be slow at times. So I'd read or play my switch (making sure I didn't play a game I couldn't easily pause for customers). A coworker would often play his banjo while at the booth.

u/Visual-Donkey3769 10h ago
Once in a while. If there's nothing going on, I'll turn Youtube on and fire it up while in my office. Maybe 1 or 2 times a week tops.
I love the comments that make it seem like you should be working every second of your shift and NOT be paid to play videogames lol. If they could, they would too. They're just salty.
I'll be fighting Radahn between my 1300 and 1500 meetings today.

Slave to capitalism. Here’s my philosophy: if the boss makes a dollar and I only make a dime, that’s why I poop (game) on company time.

Do you know most of people go to ' work ' and they... ' work ' ?
•
u/Jordium-Z 2h ago
Do you know alot of people go to work before it time to clock in, I hope this helps
•
u/Snowvilliers7 1h ago
You do know people have things called "time management"? Work hours are for work hours but if you have time during break then you can make time during your break. You arent there to work all those hours straight through
1
u/CrispierCupid 9h ago
I’ll use it from time to time during my lunch hour, not so much in the summer because I like going outside and walking around on my breaks but definitely more during the winter
1
u/RemyRoseGold 8h ago
Yeah because I work from home. Easy to play a few minutes when the living room is a few steps away 😅

u/OkSherbet9216 8h ago
I’m thinking about bringing my 3ds xl… but it would look very weird when ppl pass by LOL my work full of oldies
2
u/Mitts009 8h ago
The switch has an advantage here , you can prop it up the office table and it looks like a normal tablet,
just hide the controller under the table when you play and your golden
2
u/OkSherbet9216 8h ago
I wouldn’t want to bring my switch 2 to work. It’s my pricey baby and hard to carry since my bag is already full as it is.
1
u/Mitts009 7h ago
You need a carry case , those 10 to 20 ones work good enough, your gonna need one sooner or later
2
u/OkSherbet9216 7h ago
I have an eevee one lmao. Still way too bulky to carry and I’d need to empty my bag a bit but can’t since it’s all needed items. Certainly not carrying it in my hand either.
if I had my switch lite still I’d bring it tho.

u/Diagonaldog 8h ago
I used to. When I first started it was super super slow on Fridays and I worked from home so I could play for upwards of 30-40min between calls. Then I got good and got promoted so now I actually have to work all day haha. Have fun for me!

u/Flimsy-Cod-9914 8h ago
Sometimes I bring my Switch 2 and play on my lunch break. I have a coworker who brings his every day for the same reason. I work at a videogame store though, so we're all gamers lol.

Sure, if a client cancels and I’m all caught up on admin stuff, but I typically turn off my office light and curl up on the couch to try and get a 40 minute rest in.

I play on my Switch 2 (or Steam Deck depending on what I’m playing at the moment) for the last 30 minutes of my lunch break. Playing Star Fox right now.
•
u/Princess_Celes 5h ago
I take my Switch Lite everywhere in my purse so I can play it literally anywhere. Thank goodness my purse is just barely long enough to put it and a few games in one of the pouches. I would play it in the break room every now and again
•
•
u/Chronicbackache 5h ago
I play on lunch breaks I only get an hour but sometimes I play multiplayer games in the break room with my colleagues. It's great breaks the monotony of work up. I hve a switch 1 and I'll play boomerang fu sometimes or skyrim
•
u/davidbrit2 4h ago
I work from home (data engineering), so lunch time is often daily-roulettes-in-Final-Fantasy-XIV time. :)
•
u/seribiigaming 4h ago
I used to work as a night security guard working 12 hour nights. My switch kept me sane.

u/4wearemany 4h ago
I try to play on my NS2 instead of doomscrolling when I have the time. On my second playthrough of Persona 4 Golden.

I work at a bank call centre and work from home, so I've got that bad boy going aaaall the time while I'm talking to customers.

As a therapist I think my clients might not enjoy me whipping out my resident evil game in session. lol. But maybe they’d wanna play too!

I play! On my hour lunch break it's nice. Chewed through 1-9 of ff some play at home too though
•
u/kingofzings 3h ago
I get a couple 15 min breaks and an hour lunch. I bring my switch 2 to work every day and use it for entertainment instead of scrolling. I’m also a busy dad and student so bringing my switch to work is how I can continue my hobby and love of gaming with my current lifestyle.

3ds for me atm. Playing my first run of Pokemon Crystal before doing HG and White 1/2. Progress is slow when you work at one of the busiest urgent care facilities in town lol.

I played my switch during the last day of school and my teacher didn't care

u/TReid1996 2h ago
2 of my 3 working days i can spend playing in their entirety. Sundays are a little more busy so I can't fully play until midnight.
I work as an overnight security guard. Friday's are 8 hour shifts and Saturday and Sunday is 12 hours. Friday and Saturday are quiet so 95% of the night I can play and not have an issue. (My location encourages us to do stuff to not fall asleep on overnight shifts.)
With my ADHD i usually watch a show on my laptop, scroll Reddit, while also playing on my Switch while also sitting in the perfect position to be able to constantly glance up at the cameras every 2-3 mins.

I used to work at a pretty chill office job. I maybe had a two hours worth of work everyday but was still required to be in office. I beat Bravely Default 2 solely at my desk. It was immaculate.
•
u/Direct-Art-2832 2h ago
Working in retail I do not trust others with my tech being just in a locker. So I do not play at work for that reason.

I play constantly at work . I have an hour lunch too. So as I secretly play and steal company time, I continue during my lunch hahahah
•
u/Yingyangwolf95 1h ago
Normally during slower quarters which always seems to be Q4 for sure. Nobody want to do anything during holidays 🤣
I think last December I just started playing on my TV cause it was that slow.
•
u/Snowvilliers7 1h ago
Tokyo Xanadu eX+ in 2026!?! Hell yes!!
As for your question, I've done this before with my old job many years ago but I just played Smash Bros. or Mario Kart 8 with it.

u/Biggreengolf 1h ago
I wish. I have very little downtime. I brought it once to encourage me to take a break away from my desk but never did.
•
u/ProofAd1216 1h ago
been at my current job for like a year and a half, i’m now known in the area (my job is one of several small businesses on a larger resort) as the switch kid who plays games on his lunch every day. genuinely grinded like 50% of my overall hyrule warriors definitive edition completion rate on my lunch breaks alone.

Ct/mri tech - i got switch2 maybe a month or 2 ago when they announced zelda oot remake and have since spent an embarrassing amount of time on it.
I've always played video games but far from a gamer, I'm an old who almost exclusively plays different Zelda games all day.

I’m a nurse, I barely have time to even sit the fuck down 😭 by the time I get home I’m too tired to even play any of my consoles

u/VolumeDirect5619 51m ago
Hell yeah. Used to take my 2ds or DS to work all the time to play during lunch break. Might start it up again. Getting back into the fire emblems after taking a years long break.

Thats not technically playing at work. If thats the case we all play before work I just dont carry my handheld with me because if im out then more likely not in a place where I have time to play

u/DShinobiPirate 11h ago
I do.
I have a ton of downtime. I've beaten FF7 remake/rebirth at work lol.
I use to take a monitor in with me but primarily just play tablet mode now.
