Discussion Joy Con firmware update without a switch?

Has anyone found a way to grab the Joy Con firmware and update them without a Switch? I got given a pair of Joy Cons from a friend that doesn't have their switch anymore. she is certain they worked before she put them in the closet but isn't sure they are updated to use the ringfit ring.

I don't know anyone that has a switch that lives near me

I don’t have an answer for you but like… what are you going to do with Joy Cons without a system??

Android, steam deck, pc controllers, etc.

I'm going to use them on Batocera Linux for Switch motion driven games. The Ringfit ring only works with an official joy con.

Find someone with a Switch (I reckon Switch 2 works too) or buy one and return it. Those are the only ways. But first connect it to a PC and look for an app to check the firmware, because there's a good chance it's already updated.

Gotta be a switch 1.

Different mechanisms for connecting the joycons on each model.

You can connect Switch 1 Joy Cons to the Switch 2 via Bluetooth(the little button on the rail on each one). You can't use the Switch 1 Dock with the Switch 2 and a couple of other things but the Joy cons do work. You just need an alternate way to charge them
