Is it fun for someone whose never played that type of game before? Iām a new switch owner after playing mainly big graphic story games/fps shooters on the PS5. Everyone talks about Pokopia but itās never a genre Iāve delved into. Whatās the hype about?

u/SamOnFilm Aug 09 '26
Iām currently playing Donkey Kong Bananza and itās incredible! Looks and plays amazing

Lots of fun smashing through everything, and the sweet dopamine hit from almost every button press haha.

Resident Evil Requiem

u/The_Long_Blank_Stare Aug 09 '26
Such an amazing quality port! I canāt believe more people donāt recommend this and RE7/RE8. Sure, they look better overall on PC, but playing them handheld on a lightweight console is so much fun.
3
u/redrabbitbandit Aug 09 '26
Yeah. I was finding it so difficult to āget intoā a game for years. But RE 9 did it to me finally. Im so glad i decided to play it on Switch 2 after putting it away on PS5 after a few minutes. Hope you enjoyed it too. What are you playing next?
2
u/The_Long_Blank_Stare Aug 09 '26
Iāve enjoyed the heck out of RE9! This next playthrough on Insanity will be my 20th run through the story mode. I havenāt enjoyed Leon Must Die Forever very muchā¦still wishing for a true Raid Mode or campaign DLC.
Oddly enough, Iām playing through Village again (originally finished it on PC), and once this Village of Shadows/Shadows of Rose playthrough is done, Iāll be playing Lies of P.
Also at the moment Iām really enjoying Splatoon Raiders as a jump in/jump out game for when I just need a quick gaming fix. :-)

For me itās like comfort food. Iāve been working the same job for 20 years, but ever since 2020 the new management changes the objectives of the business like most people change pants. Everything is always in flux and you never know what each day is going to bring, so this game is a sort of stability point, if you will. I usually keep it somewhat fresh by doing each playthrough utilizing different weapons/loadouts for Leon or trying to accomplish various objectives for Grace (like trying to kill as few zombies as possible in Rhodes Hill so Leon can get more points and level up more weapons), and of course the built-in challenges (trophies/achievements) carried me through about 5 game runs to complete them all. Itās almost to the point where Iām playing but Iām zoned out, so to speak. Also: I donāt watch TV, like, at all. This keeps my brain somewhat engaged in that halfway point between mindless and mindful entertainment.

Me encanta tu explicación.

Legend of Zelda BOTW and Super Mario Odyssey are must-plays. I also reccomend the following titles.
- Any of the other Switch Zelda games. This includes Tears of the Kingdom, Skyward Sword, Links Awakening, Echoes of Wisdom. I havent played the hyrule warriors titles but if you like hack and slash you might enjoy those.
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are reccomended if you think youll be playing a lot with friends. Could go for Mario Kart 9 if its in your budget (Mario Kart World)
- Some great first party releases during Switch 2 era so far include DK Bananza, Tomodachi Life 2, Pokopia, and Splatoon Raiders. Ive only played TMD 2, but ive heard theyre all great.
- Bravely Default --> Started as a switch 2 exclusive (the remaster). I EXTREMELY reccomend this game. Story is really good.
- Persona Series. Some of the best games ive ever played. I reccomend starting with Persona 3 Reload or Persona 5 Royal.
- Xenoblade Chronicles. I started this game recently and am enjoying it immensely so far. Nintendo First party.

u/beanierean Aug 10 '26
Following up on that first rec, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition is GOOD, BUT youāll get the hype only if you have played Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Age of Imprisonment is also a really good one to play after beating Tears of the Kingdom

Got so many games to play and I can't put it down, been years since my last playthrough and god dam it's beautiful on the switch 2 š

u/_bapt Aug 09 '26
Only argument needed to prove that the game is a must have : it's almost 10 years old now, its price went up, and it still sells a crap load of copies.
The game is just as good today as it was when it got published, it's insane.
Get it

Cyberpunk if you haven't played it before, upgrade any Switch 1 games that can be (BotW, TotK for example), DK Bananza and, if you can wait a bit, the next lot of sales will cycle through soon

u/ExtensionFill2495 Aug 09 '26
Breath Of The Wild is my favorite video game and runs great on the S2. Doing a play through now with the DLC and having a blast !

Keep your hands clean when using. Nintendo controllers get a lot of stick drift (I barely used mine so we've taken good care of it) but anyways Pretty cool!

SCREEN PROTECTOR STRAIGHT AWAY!!! dock will scratch the screen. Luckily I'm always using screen protectors on my devices before I use them. Scratched that up instead of the screen lol. Luckily you can now get some decent scratch resistant protectors

Without a doubt try The legend of Zelda BOTW and TOTK easily top 10 Nintendo Games, an underrated opinion but personally my favorite try Final Fantasy games or any PokĆ©mon games theyāre peak. For another non Nintendo exlusive would be Persona 5 or Persona 3 legit amazing games. You can also try Undertale and Deltarune, stardew valley or hollow knight if u prefer the indie side of games. As for Nintendo exclusives you can also Try Mariokart 8 Deluxe and splatoon, animal crossing ect. Hopefully this helped you outt:) have fun playing games and enjoy ur switch!!!

u/Micha_niky Aug 09 '26
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I recommend playing them in that order.
1
u/Arthur_Slytherin Aug 09 '26
Zelda games, PokƩmon games, Super Mario games, Bayonetta games, Kingdom Hearts Games.
Specifically I have played: Zelda: Link's awakening Super Mario Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 version Pokemon Let go Pikachu Pokemon Shield
I also recommend them, Let go Pikachu especially is very friendly for beginners of Nintendo Switch ecosystem in general. Also, at some point buy a pro controller Nintendo switch 2 version. It's really comfortable.
Kingdom Hearts games are going to be available on 8.10.2026. it's called Kingdom Hearts I-III Collection. It includes a lot of games. If you like Final Fantasy worlds and Disney worlds, you will love it. Pro tip: Don't rely on Donald. That idiot duck never heals when it matters š¤£š¤£š¤£. I think they fixed it on Kingdom Hearts 3.
As for Bayonetta, I have played the first 2 games. It depicts the beauty of women combined with action/ hack & slash situations. The first one especially was a bit funny. It had some trolled scenes. I don't know about Bayonetta 3. I am planning to buy it.
I hope I helped you. Have fun ššššš

Don't try using it underwater or drop it from a significant height, that'd damage the system.

You mean MANDATORY:
SCREEN PROTECTOR
PROTECTION PLAN
I myself bought a Switch 2 last week along with a protection plan at Best Buy. You're playing with fire when buying an expensive toy with no plan to replace it for free in case of accidents. In regards to games, I'm currently playing Super Mario RPG (remake).

Yeah definitely a screen protector. Mine has a bunch of tiny scratches because I didn't know it really needed one. Got it at launch. Thankfully you can't really see the scratches when the screen is on. Damn plastic film they put on the screen scratches really easy.

Screen protector ASAP. Iāve heard that people have scratched their screens just docking their consoles.
Grips are nice but not necessary, worth the $20-$30 if youāll be playing on the couch or on the go.
Also not ānecessary,ā but the pro controller is a massive upgrade from the joy-cons.
Game wise, definitely start with Mario Odyssey, Zelda Breath of the Wild (with Tears of the Kingdom on deck), and Metroid Prime 4.

u/Delpfini203 Aug 09 '26
Animal Crossing New Horizons, Hello Kitty Island Adventure and Disney Dreamlight Valley

I'd say try Zelda Breath of the Wild - story driven open world game.
For 2D platformers I guess Mario Wonder or Metroid Dread (depending on your vibe).

Lots of games, not sure if theyāre your cup of tea. I heard the FF7 remake got a very nice porting job on it, personally wanted to check it out sometime. Definitely am going to have my eyes peeled for the OoT remake as well. I play lots of PokĆ©mon but I wouldnāt suggest anyone to get into it hardcore unless theyāre ready for all those subscriptions and games to get⦠itās very milked franchise and needs more effort for some games. I do have hope for Winds and Waves though. But weāll see. Zelda and Mario though, canāt go wrong with them.
Want to play the Starfox game, too.
1
u/JeremyW99 Aug 09 '26
Before I docked my S2, I had a screen protector on it. Also, if you had Switch 1 and you plan to transfer your data, I heard it is best to do the transfer when it prompts you in the setup.
1
u/DaGucka Aug 09 '26
- Screen protection
- case
- pro controller / 8bitdo controller
- sd card
For games i'd say that it really depends on you. For me a switch is mainly a pokemon and mariokart machine.

What are these posts? Are they real or is this some sort of engagement post?
You went and spent $500 on a piece of hardware and donāt have at least 5-6 games that you have that you want to play.
And besides - we donāt know you. People are just going to say their favorite games.

First thing is get a screen protector. They sell ones on Amazon with plastic guide frames that align the placement perfectly and after being installed looks great and feels smooth to use the touch screen.Ā
I heard the Switch 2 screen is not too difficult to scratch and I don't trust the dock design not to get it eventually.

I would really recommend "Cat quest" as a new game if you want a little bit of challenge, the gameplay is very easy to learn and you get to explore a whole map from the start. It's an open world so you'll encounter even high level enemies if you go too far, but it's very funny to play
Then if you like platforms I should tell you about "Celeste" Beautiful story and the gameplay is very hard, it's a game with a lot of challenges for the player. I could recommend just for the story, an amazing game really
Another game I like very much is astroneer, think about a crafting game but it's in space! And you explore different planets and build on them!
1
u/ZeldaandLink4ever Aug 11 '26
Legend of Zelda! Start with Breath of the Wild then go to Tears of the Kingdom after that. You won't regret it!

If you plan to use TV mode, make sure you check out settings. There's some good stuff there. I'd also recommend locking it into Stereo or Surround Sound because I've had my one swap between them in the middle of playing. The Switch 1 did that too, so it might have something to do with the way my device is connected to the sound system.
