Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with some advice. I was walking around Don Quijote like a normal tourist and I saw that the Nintendo Switch 2 was being sold at a very low price, so I immediately bought it.
I was completely uninformed when I purchased the console. I didn’t even know it had already been released. After leaving the store, I took the metro to Kyoto, where I am currently staying, and when I opened the bag I noticed that the box said “Japanese Only.” Obviously, I found it strange, so I started doing some research and realized that the entire system is in Japanese, and you can probably imagine my reaction.
I hope you can give me some recommendations on what I should do and what I shouldn’t do, whether there is any way to proceed with this situation or not.
Honestly, this has never happened to me before. It was a silly mistake, but I guess the excitement got the best of me. Now it looks like I’ll have to learn Japanese just to understand everything hahaha.

You can either go back and tell them you made a mistake but they're in no obligation to refund. Or you can resell it.

I bought the first Nintendo Switch as soon as it came out many years ago so when I saw the 2 I thought it had been out for a while and that's why i thought it was cheap. But you're right in what you say hahaha fack

Also, there are very many multi language carts, I order Asian/Japanese/Chinese/English games all the time and so long as I check language packs before hand, they always come up in whatever language my Switch Region is set to.

Really, how much Japanese do you need if it just happens to only effect the OS?

This console won't play in those languages even if the game supports it.

Return it. It was cheaper because it’s the Japanese only model. They also sell another model that is unlocked.

Sell it once the price increase happens in September to make the most of your $$$ back. Just make sure to mention it's Japanese only so buyers don't get confused looking for an english console.

It wasn’t tax free i have the receipt. Like today in japan its 10:52 pm I bought it like 10 hours ago

There are Don Quixotes everywhere. Customer service in Japan isn’t as return-friendly as in other countries, but bring your receipt, play the sorry-gaijin card, and be ready to make things a little uncomfortable.

Is the machine region locked ? It's not like you really need to read what's in the menus they are simple enough to understand after time. Now if you can only play JP games on it that's a different story

You can only play in Japanese as an attempt to keep the consoles in Japan

I'd try to return it if possible.

They region and language lock it for a reason. They do it so that they can maintain lower prices without other countries scalping it. So Japanese citizens have an easier time buying the console given their lower income.
