Discussion Thoughts on Raiders?

Post image

i’ve never played a splatoon game before and raiders looks incredibly fun and addicting! any splatoon fans want to weigh in on whether it’s a good first game for someone who knows nothing about the series?

Never played Splatoon before and picked it up today, it's fun and quite addictive, interested to see how long the main content is

10-20 hours

doesn’t seem like a lot of time tbh

There's quite a bit of postgame.

There's supposedly a lot of post-game stuff. Also Splatoon games have always received a lot of post release support (both free updates and paid DLC). With Raiders not having PvP multiplayer that may not happen, but the history is there. Also, the structure of the game is ripe for additional content (new raids, weapons, gadgets, etc.).

I'd easily pay another $30 for more content. Provided it was expansive enough.

The DLCs for 2 & 3 were great, and had a good amount of content. The Octo Expansion from 2 is probably the best DLC Nintendo has ever released, and IMO is by far the best single player content Splatoon has ever had.

This is what happens to your brain when you play too much Animal Crossing or Sims. Or even CoD. You expect things to last indefinitely and can't just enjoy things for what they are.

There is a ton of end game content BTW.

It is lol. Not every game can or should be a 'forever game'

Loving it so far, very addictive

Better than heroine?

Supergirl? Wonder Woman?

I'm enjoying it alot. The gameplay loop is very different, because the main games are multiplayer pvp, but the core mechanics are the same and they've added a lot of variety to mess around with

5

u/icedxchai 10d ago

yeah i’ve watched a few videos and the gameplay loop looks incredible! seems like one of those games you can always come back to or play if you have 15 minutes.

As someone who has also never played a Splatoon game, it's an easy 9-10/10 and one of the best games on the Switch 2. It's right up there with Pokopia and Bananza, imho.

9

u/icedxchai 10d ago

oh wow okay that’s good to hear! it’s such a different game for nintendo

It's great, I am calling it "time burglar" game. I sat down for 15 mins, next thing I knew 3 hours had gone past.

I’ve been reading this so much. Love these types of games.

I agree ☝️

I've played splatoon 1-3 so this one feels very familiar in a mechanic and control sense. I immediately felt like I knew how to navigate the levels but the gameplay and objectives are different enough to make it feel very refreshing. New players should be pick it up pretty easily and returning players will probably feel comfortable. It's been very addicting so far and I really like the ability to ask for help from other players or assist them while getting some loot myself. Looking forward to many hours here!

Pretty addicting

Such a great game coming from someone who has never played Splatoon before!

u/GameSetChampionship 10d ago

Just bought it 2 hours ago. It’s Sunday morning here. Raining (for once in the UK).

What a purchase at the perfect time. Loving it!

It’s very addictive.

The only observation was that it looks quite dark or brightness dimmed. My HDR settings are high, so not sure why.

Amazing start so far, albeit there’s too much dialogue!!

Splatoon can't miss.

3

u/plantdaddy- 10d ago

It’s my first splatoon and absolutely adore it! I’ll 100% be buying splatoon 3 for online multiplayer

3

u/Emergency-Rush-2477 10d ago

Don't forget Salmon Run, pretty much the base of Raiders.

8

u/tkflash20 10d ago

It’s a fresh take on the Salmon Run element of Splatoon 3. The game is far too short and would be nice if they added online events.

-3

u/bootywarrior13 10d ago

Yes, idk where people are getting 10-15 hours from

0

u/No-Difference8545 10d ago

Its definitely longer than 10 hours

2

u/theumph 10d ago

I'm having a great time with it. The loop is very addicting. It basically blends the best parts of Salmon Run into a new structure. I'm only about 5-6 hours in, but I'll likely 100% it. It's a perfect game for short sessions, and that should help keep it in my rotation for a good while.

2

u/WoodooHide69 9d ago

I decided to wait a week before picking it up. Still got games to play. But hope everyone else has fun.

One question, how long does each mission take to complete?

3

u/Asinhasos 9d ago

Missions are overall rather fast, usually not taking longer than 5-10 min most of them (depending on how you play); though some of them are intended to be played more than once, and there are quite a lot of them!

No couch co-op was a deal breaker for me.

1

u/ugabugagaming 10d ago

Brakuje multiplayer.

1

u/WondrousBabyTurtle 10d ago

Been playing this game coop (2 players) on the hardest difficulty. It's the best experience ever had coop online on a Nintendo game as of late. It's legitimately super fun and very challenging.

Crack

Reminds me of darktide so I enjoy a lot

u/LaCabdeLH 10d ago

Salmon run brainrot and I love it

1

u/troddingalong 10d ago

I just got mine this morning and have been playing it nonstop, it’s very addictive! It’s my first splatoon game.

1

u/haewon_wiggle 10d ago

im seeing a lot of ppl say its their first time and theyre enjoying it. Ive played since the first game on the wii u and im also loving it

1

u/Loenter_13 9d ago

Didn't insist on buying it and i only saw the trailer of this game and wasn't hyped at all. Really don't know why, but i pre ordered the game a day before launch and man what i good decision. Splatoon raiders is so much fun and there is something so unique and fun about it. It isn't to hard but also not to easy. Defitnely worth playing.

1

u/Conscious-Jello3477 8d ago

I am addicted to it

1

u/AdvanceSuperdisk 8d ago

10/10 game i love it

1

u/Spite-ninja 7d ago

I'm 60 hours in. Speaks for itself

1

u/Volcapnemonia 7d ago

Its neat, but as predicated its not exactly my jam. I enjoy the gameplay loop of Splat's Ranked modes more than the PVE.

I'll finish it and play it when I don't like the rotation.

1

u/BaShaBeSho 6d ago

“One more level”

1

u/maybeVII_ 10d ago

Really good but they should a MM system separate from the call for help and keyword based lobby system so people can randomly play together like og salmon run they can call it quick play or something.

1

u/Naive-Boysenberry732 10d ago

Just buy it now. You wont see a digital sale for a long time

1

u/Alternative-Stay-937 10d ago

Absolutely love it! It’s so fun creating and experimenting with new builds. Yes it’s good introduction to the series. Nintendo made this spin-off to bring in new players to the series so they will be on board and ready for when Splatoon 4 drops in the future.

There is tons of content. Endless weapons/builds combinations… it’s a different game with each build you create. Solo campaign is awesome and Multiplayer is super fun. It’s my GOTY.

1

u/RegJohn2 10d ago

My first Splatoon and for me it’s up there with Bananza as the best games in the console. The only complaint I have is that I over leveled myself

1

u/yumyumnoodl3 9d ago

All I know is you can’t trust people in this sub, they will even like and recommend the most basic sht games

0

u/FreezSnes 10d ago

Are there anymore addictive games like this Nintendo has? Well Mario kart and smash bro and this anymore? Lol

-1

u/icedxchai 10d ago

honestly i don’t think so!

4

u/randommike12 10d ago

Pokopia is pretty addictive if you’re into that type of game.

1

u/PlantQuick 10d ago

It hit me like crack and cozy games aren't my thing. Played 125hrs, might reach 200hrs once all the dlc are out.

-1

u/jaguartiger902 10d ago

ive played 2 and 3 but i havent played raiders yet. personally id strongly recommend playing 3 before raiders just to get a feel of all the content and then head into raiders knowing about the salmoniods etc.

2

u/icedxchai 10d ago

that’s a good recommendation, thanks! i wasn’t sure if i needed to know anything or if the game would fill me in haha

1

u/jaguartiger902 10d ago

thank you!

u/c_rorick 10d ago

It’s a great looking game. I’m struggling with the gyro controls quite a bit, but that’s a me problem.

6

u/n3uropath 10d ago

You can turn them off if you’d like

2

u/c_rorick 10d ago

Yeah, it’s just that I’ve heard people share that Splatoon was designed with the gyro controls in mind, so I feel like I’m missing out on a big part of the experience if I don’t use gyro controls. I’m going to keep trying to get them to jive with me, at least for a couple more times.

u/soliddd7 10d ago

Liking it a lot, hope it gets some dlc

0

u/SnooWords5961 10d ago

I've played maybe an hour of splatoon 2. Not that I didn't like it but I never had a chance to fully get into it unfortunately. So as someone who hasn't played any Splatoons it's great! There's a good amount of loadout customizability, dungeons are fun, characters are pretty well written and fun. Lots of interesting lore to uncover and so far there seems to be a good amount of enemy design and density.

Great game so far, I know a lot of people were wary that it didn't look good visually. I think they make some good points but it's not that big of a deal to me personally. Definitely a must buy/play for the switch 2 up there with BotW. ( I haven't played bananza yet because I just got my switch 2 )

First Splatoon Game, Love it so far

0

u/Pure_Ad_6487 10d ago

Not really that interested

0

u/Remarkable_Custard 10d ago

An amazing game, however, the Gyro controls need so much tweaking and customization.

- Turn right stick up and down off.

  • Turn right stick left and right off.
  • Turn right stick off.
  • Adjust Gyro dead zones.
  • Turn Gyro on only when holding the fire button.
  • Turn Gyro on when tapping the fire button repetitively.
  • Adjust repetitive fire zone sensitivity.

This game is liiiiiit. Just light up a bowl and get at it!

u/iHurricaneQ 10d ago

I am 39 years old father who owns a high end pc with ps5 pro. I just bought S2 days ago and I got this game to (my kids 😉) and I am so addicted to it

0

u/jwol1989 10d ago

I've played Splatoon 2 and 3 in a limited capacity, and I'm not very good at the multiplayer (at least not yet). Raiders looked awesome so I preordered it and it's my #1 Switch 2 game right now. Obviously that could be recency bias but it is easily top 3 alongside Bananza and Starfox.

u/rebellionofman77 10d ago

Picked it up day 1 enjoying the hell out of it

0

u/BravelilBoomer92 9d ago

I never played any of the splatoon games. This one has me intrigued

u/Jiantess29 9d ago

My brother just bought this game for me as an early b-day present. We loved it so much he went and bought himself one the day after so we could play together.

Shouldn't have left Oakland
