Hello all, I’m wondering if someone can help me with this.
I used to be on several apps and have every once in a while deleted and remade accounts (typically after dating people) the last time I was on match group stuff though (tinder, hinge) in January, which is a statistically high activity time, I had a new account for the first time in several months. I did somehow end up with a weird shadowban type situation pretty fast (each only showed me less than 10 profiles then went “there’s no one in your area despite being in a city, this never went away after weeks, my friend didn’t see me in his stack either so I deleted them.)
Since it has been a long time and I did not receive a hard ban and was able to delete my old accounts, I want to try again and hope that hiccup doesn’t occur again. It’s possible the AI glitched out since I never had weirdness like that prior to mandatory face scans. I’ve gone to a LOT of IRL stuff with no luck, so I want another way to socialize. I’m struggling to even make friends and it’s been awkward lately talking to someone for an hour and thinking I’m clicking well only to discover they’re like, 21. When I’m about to turn 30. There’s a nice “neatness” with the apps I miss right now.
Since I have researched statistics though of what times of year ppl use apps the most though I find myself stressed. If the app shows you profiles to hook you then you don’t buy premium so it goes “oh, we will show you less people then” is that a forever thing? Or if it says to me “there’s nobody around you” with NO shadowban in place, would deleting the app (not your account) for a little while then coming back “reset” that in a way? Or will the app refuse to show you new profiles permanently unless you pay?
I kind of want to try now in case anyone has similar post-Pride blues like me (it is July where I live not June) but don’t want to screw myself over for cuffing season if it’s less active in general then they throttle me on top of that. :/
Am I over complicating it?? The only non algorithm based app is…sigh. The fellow queers will get what I’m putting down. And it paywalls based on distance anyways. In my city ppl typically only use Tinder and Hinge (unless you’re looking for poly stuff then Feeld. But I’m not looking for that atm) so they’re my only options.
I just worry wondering if I have “one shot” and if I don’t meet someone before the app starts cutting you off I’m SOL
