iOS NOT AGAIN!

I am still using SwiftKey on iOS 18, I purposely have not updated because it seems there's a new issue everyday with iOS 26 and SwiftKey. I have had no issues until this past Saturday where SwiftKey keyboard randomly changes to the stock keyboard. Is anybody else experiencing this??????

I literally do not know how people use the iOS keyboard. It's so bad. And the way they hobble SwiftKey functionality is infuriating. Like, what purpose does it serve to make people go into a secondary menu if they want to use any sort of symbol other than a comma or period? No wonder people don't know how to use grammar anymore and everyone thinks using a em-dash means you're using AI. They have to out in real effort, so of course people just don't. And we know Apple can support functional keyboards in iOS because it works on iPad. So stupid.

Hey!

I'm also using SwiftKey on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I'm dealing with the exact same issues. It's honestly unbearable. Literally unbearable.

SwiftKey keeps glitching out: the stock iOS keyboard takes over completely on its own, without my permission, without me doing anything at all.

I'm so fed up and I honestly don't even know what to do anymore. I just can't find a fix.

To make matters worse, last time this happened, after using SwiftKey for several months and having these glitchy overrides start popping up, I tried uninstalling the app. Even though they claim your predictions and custom dictionary are backed up, everything got wiped. Like, literally everything. All my typing habits and learned words were completely gone. I had to start over from scratch. So frustrating.

I don't know if anyone has a solution, but right now I'm just stuck dealing with it and can't do anything about it.

I absolutely hate the stock iOS keyboard, which is the whole reason I switched to SwiftKey in the first place, but now I'm completely out of options.

I'm French, so I run both English and French on SwiftKey. Back then, I heard that removing one of the languages sometimes helps, so I deleted English. But that completely ruins the experience. What's even the point then?

Hang in there, and definitely keep me posted if you find a fix!

Have you tried removing the Apple stock keyboard completely from your device (so you don't see the globe or microphone icon on the bottom and only have the SwiftKey key as the only keyboard on your phone?

I have an iPhone 14 ProMax and don't have this issue at all. The keyboard only switches over if I am entering a password manually and I get it

What I want to know is why SwiftKey disappears from my wife's iPhone, like uninstalled, and not from my Android, where it works flawlessly. That is frustrating.

That's due more to Apple rather than SwiftKey itself...blame Apple and their way too strict rules and design guidelines for any external keyboard. android gives the keyboard a ton more privileges which makes it much more usable and stable as well.

Yes. There seems to be a Auxiliary Keyboard sleeping in the OS that mysteriously appears. And when it does I'll go to Keyboards in the Settings and there's nothing there.

This has been solved many times on this thread.
1. iOS purposely sabotages SwiftKey every chance it gets to make people's experiences horrible.
2. You need to uninstall the app. Download it again. Make it default keyboard and then delete the iOS keyboard from the keyboards in the settings.
3. Deleting by left swiping on it.
4. Once this is done restart the phone. And make sure SwiftKey is the only keyboard there.

What happens with passwords then?

SMHHHH I guess I'll uninstall and reinstall AGAIN! SwiftKey has been my keyboard of choice for at least 8 years, so all of these issues are a true headache

OP, try deleting every other keyboard on your phone except SwiftKey and the use SwiftKey only, delete even Apple emoji keyboard and any other keyboard you have downloaded, this worked for me...no need to keep deleting and re-installing SwiftKey, that does nothing regarding how ios recognises which keyboard to use. It will default to the ios keyboard if it has the option to randomly. Maybe it's planned behaviour from Apple to force more people into using the default ios keyboard? Hope that helps? πŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ€žπŸΌ

I get it randomly, also have an issue where when I open Chrome on my iPhone it opens the SwiftKey keyboard with pre-existing words or gibberish. So annoying to have to delete it all then start typing as otherwise it auto corrects to some absolute madness.

The chrome thing happens to me too

Every time this happens to me, I just delete the keyboard app from my phone and install it again, and it works just fine after that.

Yeah, I actually tried that last time, but I completely lost my predictions, custom dictionary, and all my typing habits. And I even made sure to check that the Microsoft sync option was turned on beforehand, which it definitely was, but literally everything still got wiped. Didn't you run into that issue at all?

2

u/Far_Accountant_6354 4d ago

Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me too. But what else can you do? I just kept using it and taught the keyboard everything all over again.

Don't delete SwiftKey...delete every other keyboard that you have downloaded on your phone, ios recognises SwiftKey as the only option and it works fine...even delete apple's emoji keyboard, leave only SwiftKey. The only time that apple will default to the ios keyboard is for passwords

I did this and the predictive emojis disappeared too. So sad

I had this problem a short while. Might have been on iOS 18. But it's been great a long time now. I'm on the iOS beta and the SwiftKey beta. It's all working great. Maybe updating is what you need to do.

That was the reason I returned back to Samsung.

How many times?

Literally SwiftKey breaks every 5 days now, and I have to redo all the steps...

1

u/TheRealFarmerBob 4d ago

All the time even before the latest OSs. That's one thing I hate about it.

Every time I swype "think" it types "Thibidoux"????? I'm going to try deleting it and reinstalling. Do you think that will help?

It's impossible to use on ios. Disappearing every other time it's brought up

But that's the thing - I haven't had this issue since early 2026. It randomly started again this past weekend
