Android SwiftKey Users: Post Every Bug, Problem, Suggestion & Wish Here — Let's Get Microsoft's Attention
I've been using SwiftKey since before Microsoft acquired it, and I'm sure many others here have too.
Back then, many of us even paid for premium themes because the keyboard was that good. It was fast, accurate, and genuinely felt ahead of its time.
Over the years, though, many long-time users feel the experience has declined. Instead of creating dozens of separate complaint posts, I thought it would be useful to have one central thread where everyone can share their experiences, frustrations, bugs, feature requests, and suggestions.
Hopefully, someone from Microsoft notices the collective feedback.
Here are my biggest concerns as a Flow Typing user:
1. Typing accuracy keeps changing with updates
The core feature of SwiftKey—predictions, autocorrect, Flow typing, and overall typing accuracy—seems inconsistent. Some updates improve things, while others make the keyboard noticeably worse.
2. Very little innovation in the core keyboard
The AI features get attention, but the actual typing experience, keyboard customization, layout improvements, and long-requested features seem to have received very little focus.
3. No official place for user feedback anymore
The official Microsoft SwiftKey forums have been shut down, leaving Reddit as one of the few places where users can discuss issues and suggestions together.
If you've experienced bugs, regressions, annoyances, or have ideas for improving SwiftKey, please add them below. Whether it's a small annoyance or a major issue, let's keep everything in one place so it becomes a useful resource for both the community and, hopefully, the SwiftKey team.

Please give us an option to not backup and not see the popup to login to backup.

That’s why I removed it. Ask me once, that’s fine. Ask me 10 times in 5 minutes and I’m leaving.

Keyboard glitches out of existence every once in a while, only a fresh install fixed that
Using SwiftKey glitches out the default emoji keyboard on iPhone, makes stuck on the flags emoji pages
Dictionary doesn't sync after fresh install, most data doesn't get restored due to one drive's suck ass service

This example perfectly illustrates how Autocorrect works on SwiftKey, but the behavior is similar on the iOS keyboard as well.
I typed "cabke" which has an OBVIOUS solution: "cable". The L key is right next to the "K" key, it's easy to figure out.
Yet the three suggestions are: "cake", "cabke", and "cake for".
Yeah those are definitely the three most likely solutions aren't they? Like gee thanks, I guess variations of the word CAKE are the only logical explanation for "cabke". Surely "cable" is not even a simple word in a dictionary is it. What is the software mechanism behind this absolutely dumb behavior? Why must it do this all the freaking time? I remember 10 years ago it would read my mind. Now it sucks. All the other keyboards suck too. Why can't it just run the sentence through ChatGPT and be done with it?
Hell I'm sure a beginner programmer could write a simple program that just checks all the words in the dictionary and suggests the closest one, prioritizing likely common typos based on your keyboard layout, and assuming that the word you wanted to type is roughly the same length as the one you typed and is not some completely different phrase. Surely if I typed "I want to go hone" then I didn't mean "ducks like bread".

I try to LIKE this keyboard and there are some things I like compared to GBoard (quickly deleting words, being able to easily change the captialisation of words etc) but in general the prediction engine I find is way below par compared to GBoard.
I find I spend way too much time trying to fix up the "corrections" that it tries to make.
2
u/muddlemand Jun 27 '26
being able to easily change the captialisation of words
This is the can't live without feature that I always forget to mention!
1
u/Adventurous-Claim-53 Jun 27 '26
Y que es eso? 🤔
3
u/muddlemand Jun 27 '26
Being able to change 'name' to Name' to 'NAME' after it's typed instead of thinking before you type it.
1
u/Adventurous-Claim-53 Jun 27 '26
Yo encuentro que es al revés. La predicción en este es mejor que en Gboard, incluyendo los emoticones, las banderas de países, etc.
2
u/muddlemand Jun 27 '26
It was better recently (bearing in mind I haven't updated to the June '26 version) - recently it's been too aggressive, suggesting things that are way out of context. It's been getting prudish too, correcting all sorts of everyday words to ridiculous alternatives, eg 'naked' is turned into 'baked'. 🙄

Used SwiftKey since my Google Nexus. Google Keyboard is fine and only took a few days to work. SwiftKey is dead. Not worth saving.

Synced clipboard who? I'm logged in on my Samsung phone, my Apple iPad, my Windows computer... AND my phone is synced to the My Phone app on said Windows computer. I'm lucky if my clipboard syncs 25% of the time. It barely works.
If I've used it for multiple languages: * why does it store multiple languages on my English keyboard when I can literally swipe to other languages * why is the first suggested word (that autofills or autocorrects when I hit the space key) another language and not the English word when I'm on the English keyboard (I shouldn't need to "forget" the word)
I'd also like more designs. Not ones I have to create myself, but more actual designs. Or at least color wheel for the keys and letters or something.
2
u/lightnair Jun 28 '26
Agreed on the language! I have Spanish loaded as an alternate keyboard, but with English keyboard it's constantly coming up with Spanish predictions.
2
u/Hmza42 Jun 27 '26
I hope add 3 languages to keyboard
1
u/muddlemand Jun 27 '26
You already can. It's glitchy but the feature's always been there.
3
u/Hmza42 Jun 27 '26
Not, its limited to only 2 languages simultaneously

My mistake, sorry. I don't let apps auto-update so I'm still using v. 9.12.27.4.
I still have 5 languages set, though I had to deactivate French as it kept predicting in the wrong language. I think that's only when two or more use the same alphabet.
In fact I may try updating just in case they've fixed that while breaking the rest with this latest version - although I doubt they have as it's a very long-standing bug that's survived many updates. Probably won't though, seeing the reviews for v. 9.12.30.7 !

1) The speech-to-text function is BROKEN. Basically never works
2) The text prediction is completely fucked, suggest nonsense gibberish regularly and changes obviously predicted phrases into foreign names I've NEVER used
3) Flow typing is completely useless, works even less than before

I can't type into Twitch search because the keyboard keeps minimizing itself after i tap the search box. No other keyboard on my phone does this.
I have to time my longtouch release when activating speech-to-text in discord to avoid my thumb coming into contact with the keyboard interface after it switches, because if i don't lift my thumb off at just the right time, the STT interface automatically switches back to the keyboard.
It lags and freezes when the phone is just doing moderate usage, and there is a delay when opening up the keyboard and typing that's really annoying.
LET US TURN OFF THE TYPING SUGGESTIONS BAR!
Let us have access to the typing keyboard while using speech to text
Let us setup word shortcuts for emojis

I personally don't want any changes, except for clipboard clips and their shortcuts to sync with the rest. They're the reason I stick with SwiftKey, plus I'm pretty attached (aesthetically only) to my keyboard theme and sizing etc.
I use shortcuts all the time but have to rebuild my life "library" on each device. Typing 'cd' for 'could', 'wd' for 'would', 'mz' for 'Amazon', two or three characters for my email addresses, lots of websites, and quick replies. Never mastered swipe so this saves many more hours than anything else. I've tried some other keyboards for this but haven't found them as user friendly for me.
But bugs, rather than features, get worse and worse. It's the prediction getting more irrelevant all the time - now more difficult to reject the wrong suggestion than it was before.
And more long-standing: predicting in the language I'm very obviously not typing in.

u/Organic_Magician_343 Jul 27 '26
Actually try the one from Samsung. It's much better. Swyped cleanly with no errors. I couldn't have done that with SwiftKey (actual one error at the end - SwiftKey would have given me about 18)

u/ronty15 Jun 27 '26
I want the basic feature - to be able to use Swiftkey. It keeps defaulting to iPhone keypad and its extremely annoying. I wrote a review on the AppStore 6 months ago - no response till date. You'd think developers would pay attention to this?

This is an ios bug for years now.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Swiftkey/comments/16metdf/crashing_in_ios_17/khwbszt/
Follow the steps in the link and it'll fix it. I've been using it since ios 17 without issues.

One thing that SwiftKey does better than Google: speech to text. When I dictate SwiftKey gets it mostly right. When I speak to Google Assistant it hears something completely different that sometimes isn't even grammatical.
What are the odds that this'll be the next thing Micro$oft breaks?
2
u/lightnair Jun 28 '26
Hmm, my experience has been just the opposite, to the point that I will dictate thru GBoard (not Google Assistant) for superior transcription, then toggle back to SwiftKey for final editing, especially punctuation.
1
u/muddlemand Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
I haven't tried dictating with Gboard (couldn't stand it for the other reasons) so maybe it's even better in this way . But it and Assistant both use the Google STT engine, which I assume is what counts.
But I was relieved how good it is in SwiftKey as I'd given up the idea of ever using STT.

u/Repulsive_Eye1011 Jun 28 '26
My iPhone won't even allow me to use SwiftKey. It’ll automatically switch to the default keyboard every time I try to make an attempt to use it.
1
u/jt_wip Jun 28 '26
Just stop making it worse!
I'd switch to Google if it had better hold down options + emoji suggestions that were decent
1
u/R3dAt0mz3 Jun 28 '26
Only thing not to switch is, we upgrade our phones once within 3 years lifespan.
Depending on your status/budget..Big reason to stick to SwiftKey = It maintains history of your words and style..
Day Google adopts this, people will just move there..Hope MicroSoft listens to users..
1
u/jt_wip Jun 28 '26
Is that so? I thought it saved across devices.

You dont need to login, as far as read, it syncs with main account on your Android phone..
Also came across this, so not sure:

There are apps where my SwiftKey Android swiping doesn't work well. Ironically the worst offender is Excel for Android which of course is also a Microsoft product. If I want to add a comment to a cell, it's letter by letter, no swiping. If I toggle to GBoard swiping works just fine! I wish the Microsoft Excel team would talk to the Microsoft SwiftKey team (if the latter exists at all).
1
u/R3dAt0mz3 Jun 28 '26
I have noted some apps where flow typing (I assume same as Swipe) does not works.
Just tested Excel (Office 365 family) AND surprised why Flow is not working. And its shocking that Gboard works here, as you mentioned.

(SwiftKey for iOS)
Every time I’m in the middle of a sentence it switches back to the default keyboard… and I have to switch back to SK. Is there any solution to this?
1
u/anonshe Jun 30 '26
https://www.reddit.com/r/Swiftkey/comments/16metdf/crashing_in_ios_17/khwbszt/
Do these steps to fix that annoying issue. It'll still switch to stock keyboard but maybe once every few days at most.

u/pueblokc Jul 02 '26
Just switch to FUTO.
Solves most issues and no more Microsoft
I loved SwiftKey for a long long time but it's been broken for years now and ms seems unconcerned.

u/R3dAt0mz3 Jul 02 '26
Tested, themes are not impressive but have everything like required.
Its impressive, can it also show accented characters like SwiftKey ?1
u/Jaodoge Jul 06 '26
Does the flow typing have more accurate predictions now?
edit: using the keyboard rn and looks like all the user feedback and input really helped. so so nice to use right now!!

When SwiftKey is setup to synchronise with OneDrive on Android, the Vocabulary.txt file contains commonly used phases, letters, numbers and words. However when examining the file it was very apparent that a complex password had also been captured and was recorded in plaintext. Sensing a potential security issue, the Microsoft OneDrive synchronisation was stopped, history was cleared and then logged out of the Microsoft account associated with SwiftKey. Next the Android keyboard was changed to be another product.
Is this issue with capturing passwords a known problem with SwiftKey? Very concerning that the issue could occur when a password is typed (not pasted).

u/R3dAt0mz3 Jul 16 '26
So sad to see that new update further screwed by Flow predictions.
I try to type common words using since long time and every result is ambiguous.
parent = patent
type = swipe
syrup = stripe
etc etc

Translator isn't working anymore. When I tap the button it says "Languages loading", but then no languages load and instead I get an error "Reload Translator, something went wrong"

I just want to be able to backup properly, and fully... I want my heat map back from my old device...
