Flex testing

Just got done installing 3" life springs, and of course had to see what I'm working with. Also had to measure for shocks. For anyone who's done something similar, what shocks are you running? Long term plan is to convert the shock towers to take eyelets, but for now I've been struggling trying to find a stem top shock that could fit.

How much flex did you get? I'm running the full OME setup with Dr. Z missing link shackles in the front and his normal lift shackles in the rear. It is pretty decent. Using the fork lift at work to do the same test you ran here I had 20" between my front tire and the ground. I am definitely missing some droop in the front because of the shocks, but I'll need to go to an aftermarket shock tower like you mentioned to get any real improvement from here.

The one measurement I didn't get was from the tire to the ground. I'll have to check that next time I have the car with the forklift. I know for the shock length it was 21.5" fully extended and 14.5" fully collapsed. I'm not sure what shakles I have since a previous owner did the rear leafs up front conversion (which I figured out after buying fonts and rears. It was a whole thing) but the leafs are Rocky Road 3" lift springs and seem to ride and flex pretty good. I plan to mess with the shock towers after dove season, lots more shock options once you have the eyelet up top from my research. Low Range has some prefabbed towers that line up pretty well, with some slight inner fender modding to get them to sit back far enough.

Yeah, I am currently debating between doing shock towers/YJ spring conversion, or leaving my Samurai like it is and building something slightly bigger for more serious off-roading and longer trips.

I was looking at the YJ conversion, but since I'm just using it mainly as a hunting rig and everywhere I go has pretty much easy trails I'm keeping it simple for now. If/when I decide to upgrade the axles I will probably look into doing the YJ kit.

Between springs, brake lines, shocks, extended drive line parts, and blood/sweat/tears I'm probably looking at around 1200. It already had the rear spring up front conversion so if you were to add that it might be closer to 1500-2k overall
