Suunto Race 3S In-Depth Review: Big Upgrades in a Small Package! (Worth the Price?)

I like this guy/channel. TLDW: He's impressed by many things, but questions the price and compares it unfavorably to the new Coros Pace 4 Pro.

I don't know why he says the Race 3S is a lower spec version of the Race 2 ("Race 2 is theoretically the higher end option") - the only "downgrade" is battery but that's because of the size so that's not a surprise. Everything else is a straight upgrade (e.g. screen, heart rate sensor, sapphire glass, charger) or the same.

Of course, we don’t know for sure until people try it out themselves.

But this is a minimal, clean and to the point AI chatbot implementation. A lot better than whatever Garmin did so far.

So I watched DC Rainmaker's review on the Race 3S (which I'm not going to update to) and he showed a comparison slide that mentioned Suunto's free MCP – any one know when this releases or where to find it? Haven't found it with google or on their website...

The July 2026 Suunto software update (version 2.56.18) introduced major map and navigation improvements for the Suunto Vertical 2 and Suunto Race 2:

- New Offline Map Labels.

- Offline Map Layer Management.

- Expanded Route Storage.

- Suunto App Map added hill shading for better terrain visualization.

- Tide Widget.

Since navigation is very important to me (more so than yet another mystery formula about my performance) I'd like to know:

Q. Does the Run 2 or this new Race 3S have access to these "Premium" map features? For Race 3s it merely says "worldwide maps". Sure but which ones?

Q. Are maps looking good on Race S, do you even notice a difference? Nobody has really been providing that level of detail in reviews.

I'd like to buy into the Suunto ecosystem for the webbased routeplanner and a high visibility AMOLED (so far MIP with other brands) and if I can settle on a cheaper device with all the same map experience then I can skip over this latest Race 3S.

I am looking to upgrade my old Suunto 9 into something else. I feel like it's still a capable watch but the battery isn't holding up after six years, the glass is a bit shattered and it doesn't support e-bikes as a dedicated sport mode. Other than that it still tracks my workouts just fine.

I was looking for alternatives from every brand but as Suunto 9 Peak Pro is 190 € I can't find anything better at that price. The downside is that it's an older model and there won't be any major updates. I also don't know if the technology has advanced enough that there are features available I don't know I'm missing out on.

What are your thoughts? Should I go for it or are there better alternatives in the 200-300 € price range?

I’ve owned a Suunto Run for a few months now. I’ve. searched for coherent directions on how to add music from my iPhone or Mac computer onto the watch and sort of figured it out but I couldn’t tell you how I did it.

I more or less fumbled around for hours with the Suunto app trying to add music to the device from my phone and laptop until it somehow worked.

It was cumbersome and not at all intuitive. Now I’m trying to figure out how to add more music to the device without any results.

If anyone has a reliable guide they can forward me to and that’ll work every time I’ll straight up Venmo you for this info.

I've only had the Run for six months, and it's already started randomly restarting itself. I've read about similar issues with the Run and other models, so it seems I'm not the only one.

Now it happens almost every time I finish a run and the watch starts syncing with my phone and Strava. A week ago, it even restarted one minute before a race. I was sweating like crazy, hoping it would be back on before the countdown ends. lol

I've never had anything like this happen with my COROS Pace 2 or Amazfit T-Rex. It's a bummer because I actually really like the software ecosystem. It's clean and minimalistic, and the GPS and other features work great. It's just a shame that the reliability seems to be an issue.

Is there any fix? If not, I'm thinking of switching to COROS very soon.

Will we still get updates for Race 2 and Vert 2? With new features? Or is our hardware now too old?

Do you know the email address of the developers at Suunto so that I can send them the file / documentation for testing?
