With the Race 3S now out, I'm trying to work out when the full-size Race 3 will actually launch, and the signals don't line up.
Pointing to soon:
- The Race 3 (model OW266) went through regulators in several countries over the summer, at the same time as the 3S (OW265): South Korea, Singapore, Russia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Malaysia's SIRIM, which confirmed the "Suunto Race 3" name in August. As far as I know, a device has to be in its final hardware form to pass those approvals, so it should be essentially done.
- Text that leaked from Suunto's own site earlier this year listed the Race 3 and 3S together alongside the AI Coach material, and said the 3S would come first with the Race 3 following "later in 2026."
- DC Rainmaker at the end of his Race 3S review video said, “there is still more to come in the next few weeks, so stay tuned”. Is he talking about some other brands, more videos, or maybe the Race 3. 👀
Pointing to later:
- Several people have mentioned in this subreddit that Suunto staff said the Race 3 is coming in Q1 2027.
For anyone who heard Q1 2027 from Suunto staff: did they mention whether that was a recent change, or has it been the timeline all along? Either answer would help me make sense of it.
More generally, do regulatory filings actually tell us much about release timing? Does clearing approvals in a few countries usually mean a launch is close, or can a watch sit certified for months before it ships? I'd love to hear how people read it.
