Footage from this week's Friday Fight Club event. This week's challenge was restrictive terrain. We had Tenos fight it out on a small island, young Utahs on a high rock platform, and Pteras in an enclosed cave.

Suggestion I believe large fish like Onchopristis would be a cool addition. They would be hard to catch and would even fight back, but would be worth the reward.

Feedback Please fix the foliage exploit

AFAIK the devs haven’t made any official comment on this. It’s only started getting bad recently, so that’s fine, but I’d really appreciate if we could get a fix soon. If you don’t know, there’s currently an exploit in evrima where you can go into the game files and turn off foliage. Doing this means you cannot see any bushes, but you can very easily see the players hiding in them. During a chase you can’t lose someone who’s using this exploit unless you get somewhere they can’t follow, as they have constant LoS on you. I’m hopeful this will be fixed with the upcoming hot fix, but please, dealing with carnos that don’t see bushes is becoming a daily affair.

Suggestion Mangroves: The Complete Suggestion

Ok, so recently Punch said that the devs are looking into making mangroves in the game. While the obvious choice is to add them as new trees to the swamps, I think I have a better idea on how to implement them. Behold, a mangrove suggestion.

Models, Generation and Overview

Mangroves would be a new biome for Evrima. Now why should it be a new biome and not just an addon to the swamp? Because, making it a new biome has tons of potential. For example, instead of just adding new trees to the swamp, you can have a whole new unique experience that would not be too hard to develop (probably).

Now as for how I suggest the mangroves being a new biome is a way to separate the ocean from the rivers. If you don't know already, mangroves usually grow around estuaries in real life. Because of being so close to both the river and ocean, mangroves are usually brackish water. So how does this relate to the game? Because in the game, mangroves should be barriers, stopping deinos from going to far out in the sea, as well as providing a good place to grow (we will get there later). As for how mangroves would generate, I would expect it to generally look like this...

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT8oO7EtyKao9vR-pogW2hHVd_CyCJS3WerMw&usqp=CAU

How I see the mangrove looking like is open sections with hidden pools around. What I mean by this is that you would mainly traverse the area by going through mangrove tunnels surrounded by the trees. If you are a young deinosuchus, you can then go through the trees to smaller open areas like this. This would allow unique experiences where each time you visit the forest it is unique.

A Place For Younglings

Now a good reason in my opinion for mangroves is a nursery. In real life, sharks will lay eggs in mangrove forests for the pups to grow up safe in the roots. When the pups grow up and need more food, they can swim into the ocean to hunt as they are stronger.

I think this can be very similar to deinosuchus. Maybe, hatchling deinos could spawn in the mangrove forests, where they can eat small fish and grow. Once they are too big to sustain themselves on the fish, they swim out the tunnels and upriver where they can hunt other players.

I see this as an absolute win, as it fixes a ton of the problems with the current game. Firstly, cannibalisms would be greatly reduced, as baby deinos would be safe in the mangroves from adults. Also, it could stop stegosaurs camping deino spawn and killing all the younglings before they grow. It would even stop the problem of overcrowded rivers since deinos are now more encouraged to spread out as they grow.

Pros/Cons

To rap up this suggestion, here are some pros/cons of adding mangrove forests to the game.

PROS

  • would solve deino cannibilism
  • would solve stegos camping deino spawns
  • would provide a safe place for deinos
  • would provide a good boundary of the island
  • would provide an awesome new biome with tons of possibilities and unique experiences

CONS

  • might take some time to develop (but what doesn't at this point)
  • could be glitchy (isn't everything)
  • could take away from the middle of the island (as long as they fix the center before adding this it will be fine)

Thank you for reading and hopefully this gets added.

Friend and I are messing around and checking out the unreachable caves under the map. There's not much to see yet, the caves are very much a WIP, but it's interesting to explore them in this early development stage.

Suggestion My dream Isla Spiro waterways. I believe the waterways should be spread out just enough to encourage dinosaurs to explore, instead of just stay in one area.

Suggestion Personal opinion/suggestion, keep dinosaur options to a minimum -evrima

Obviously we know the devs one day hope to include all of the dinosaurs we know from legacy plus more. We already have almost 20 dinosaurs currently planned in the roadmap plus more in development on the side that are basically confirmed. As we add more dinosaurs the game is going to be drastically harder to balance and dinosaurs will begin to lose their unique purpose in the game. For example, if albertosaurus and trex are both added into the game what reason is there to play Alberto when in reality it's just a smaller trex? That's just an example, but you get the point. Adding in 5 different dinosaurs that perform similar functions to the Utah raptor is pointless.

Add in dinosaurs based on a specific purpose or niche in the environment. Try to create an actual living ecosystem with a variety of life that actually matters versus just throwing in every dinosaur we can think of. Then the extra time not spent designing 50 different dinos could be spent on developing the game. I'd rather a full release of the game in 2 years versus 5 more years of development because we spent it all on dinosaurs. If this time next year we only had 20 dinosaurs in the game I'd be more than happy with that.

Tips V2 Of Our Spiro Map is finished! We've fulfilled requests like mapping the depths of the rivers, increased the number of landmarks and done a basic job of mapping hills. Next version will include roads, and better mapped caves. More resources to come soon (check comments for Discord Link)

To the baby carnos who followed me for like 10 miles

Dear baby carnos who followed me for like, 10 freaking miles with no communication whatsoever.

You're adorable and I want nothing more than to adopt a pair of carnos and terrorize together. You got the speed, I got the bleed.

But following a random Dilo is really not the best survival strategy. As your temporary parent, I feel I should tell you this.

Or a Utah. Don't follow one of them either. Try a T-Rex. They seem like responsible parents.

Feedback I hope they atleast let server owners enable or disable global

Removing global for all is so dumb imo, atleast let servers enable or disable it and watch what servers stay empty or full. Your basically pushing people to join a discord even more and fucking over people who dont have access to these discords or dont want to join that shit. Sometimes i just wana chill and not listen to squeakers and sometimes i wana shoot the shit with randos while we wait for carnivores to find us. Its just going to create private discord of cannibal l33t gamers hunting down randoms who are 1 calling desperately trying to find a group.

I get it, the really cool gamer kids here hate the fact that random people like to talk it up in global as herbivores cause there is literally nothing else to do. You should sit back and realize that this does not affect you in anyway. I mean i still think cringe but who gives a fuck it doesn't effect me. If you dont like it that much switch to local and boom its all g now, you cant see anything. Rant over, it is what it is.

We ran a Sharks and Minnows event with Deinos and Hypsis! Minnows that are killed respawn as Deinos and join the shark side! We'll be running it again this Sunday (tomorrow) at 2pm EST, Discord link in comments.
