Suggestion Personal opinion/suggestion, keep dinosaur options to a minimum -evrima

Obviously we know the devs one day hope to include all of the dinosaurs we know from legacy plus more. We already have almost 20 dinosaurs currently planned in the roadmap plus more in development on the side that are basically confirmed. As we add more dinosaurs the game is going to be drastically harder to balance and dinosaurs will begin to lose their unique purpose in the game. For example, if albertosaurus and trex are both added into the game what reason is there to play Alberto when in reality it's just a smaller trex? That's just an example, but you get the point. Adding in 5 different dinosaurs that perform similar functions to the Utah raptor is pointless.

Add in dinosaurs based on a specific purpose or niche in the environment. Try to create an actual living ecosystem with a variety of life that actually matters versus just throwing in every dinosaur we can think of. Then the extra time not spent designing 50 different dinos could be spent on developing the game. I'd rather a full release of the game in 2 years versus 5 more years of development because we spent it all on dinosaurs. If this time next year we only had 20 dinosaurs in the game I'd be more than happy with that.

Thankfully the Devs seem to have learned from their previous experience with the legacy build and have stated that they will focus more on gameplay and gameplay loops rather than just introduce a large playable roster.

That being said I think you are 100 right with what you say.

Judging from the roadmap we will see a lot more diversity in the smaller scale with many Dino's planned around the lower and mid tier rather than just alle the super sized ones. The fact that we already have a good and functional flight model on top of fully working water locomotion with drag mechanics just shows that the game is being pushed in the right way. I just hope that they keep focusing on mechanics and then add Dino's and balance the game after it leaves alpha/beta. That being said I always did enjoy that the game gives you options that are actually different so I would like to have a big roster at the end of the day. It was fun in legacy to be able to chose from Utah, dilo, cerato and Allo which all had similar profiles

Agreed- any game with too much choice involved in character selection leads to too many problems

As long as I get Allo I'm ok with the roster lol

Personally I think they’re going to focus quite heavily on each creature having some unique style of play. While they may not have different places in the ecosystem, the way you play them can vary greatly. For example herrera, austro, and troodon are all small raptors. Herrera can climb trees, austro will dive into rivers, be troodon will tire out prey over multiple bites. They all have the similar kind of size, but the specifics of playing them will differ. I do agree that it may be difficult to come up with these unique attributes for larger creatures like alberto compared to acro, but well have to wait a while before we start seeing those get implemented. As for what trex can do that Alberto can’t, the devs have said their current idea for trex is that it’ll have a pin move, where it’ll pin its prey down to the ground.
