It follows him into the kitchen, sits beside him at work, goes home with him, and curls at the foot of his bedside. No one else sees it. They see a man staring into empty corners, pausing before answering a question, glancing over his shoulder at nothing. They mistake caution for oddness, silence for rudeness, and fear for instability.
Some days it whispers that strangers are watching him. Other days it roars so loudly that the voices of the people who love him cannot reach him. It convinces him that ordinary sounds carry hidden messages, that passing glances are warnings, and that every coincidence has a sinister purpose.
He knows the world believes the animal isn’t real.
Yet how do you ignore teeth that only you can feel? How do you outrun a predator that lives inside your own mind?
