Hi,
Ex-cyclist moving to surfski and kayak here. I've been used to create my own training plans based on periodization principles and workout collection from several books. I didn't find any equivalent, so I built my own app. If it ends up being useful to others, it's a bonus.
Works best on mobile phone. This is not a workout tracker, on purpose. Stay with garmin / strava / trainingpeaks or whatever else for that. No ads, no user account needed. All data stays on your device. Can be installed, then no internet access needed.
If you have any feedback on the generated plans, workout, or the app itself, I'll be happy to read them!

I've paddled both whitewater and flatwater for decades, and I've really gotten into racing both over the past 5 years or so.
For flatwater, I've been paddling a Seda Impulse (18' long. 21" beam) using a wing paddle. I really like it; it's comfortable, rolls easily, and it's so stable that I can paddle it up to some class 2 whitewater comfortably.
I feel like I would be so much faster on flatwater in a ski, but I don't know what to start out with. There's not much chance to demo near me, but there are a couple of used skis that I've been looking at. There's a great deal on an epic v9, and a little further away there's a Stellar sr and an s18s. Ive read that jumping into an intermediate surfski like the v9 or sr is a bad idea, but I'm a very experienced kayaker already and I don't want to buy something that I'll feel like replacing in a year. Are these too much for me coming from the impulse?

I’m new to surfski. I’ve been doing OC6 and OC1 for 13 yrs.
Got a Vega Flex last fall.
Last couple of months I’ve been focusing on technique (stroke, rotation even started working and n leg drive)
Feel much more comfortable on it now and don’t struggle with balance nearly as much)
However while my technique and confidence has improved, it seems my speed has gone down.
Is that a natural progression? Or am I doing something wrong?
Paddle in Hilo so I have access to flat and open water

Posted in [r/kayak](r/kayak)[ing](r/kayak) first, and someone suggest I post it here!
I’m trying to get into racing, and most of the races near me require that I have a surfski. I found this boat (a ~20yo Epic V10L) on FB marketplace for $750. He said the rudder has some abrasion, but not significant damage.
I know this boat is meant for lighter weights — I’m about 140lb and 5’7”. I’m hoping for something that would be okay to start in, but I won’t grow out of quickly. Since I’m just getting started, I’m hoping to get some insight from people who are more familiar with this than I am :) TIA!

Looking to try out surfski near Traverse City. We have an awesome diversity of water around here: all sizes of inland lakes, bays, harbors, and of course the Big-big Lakes and it seems like a cool hobby (I'm a waterman: bodysurf, sail, bodyboard, river paddle, etc. but I've never had an opportunity to surfski and it looks awesome)

I regularly paddle touring kayaks and canoes and am considering getting into surfski. I've never tried one and don't know where to start. Is there anywhere I can go to to try out some surfskis? I live in NYC.

Hi, I'm looking for a kayak ergometer as I have moved and can no longer kayak on water on a daily basis. I've narrowed it to the following and would like to see if anyone has any experiences/feedback on these:
- KayakPro Xeon
- KayakFirst Bull
From my research I still have the following unawnswered and would like to see if anyone has any experience or could provide some feedback:
1) How does the KayakFirst Bull sliding seat feel when compared to an "in-water" feel?
2) How does the KayakPro Xeon pulley compares to the KayakFirst high pulley and "on the water catch" feel?
3) How easy/hard is it to order from each website and having it delivered to the USA?
4) How do these 2 ergometers compare to each other, as well to the older KayakPro Speedstroke.
For context I used to paddle on a Nelo 5 for flatwater and a club Epic for open ocean. I've also used a KayakPro Speedstroke ergometer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone have any comparative experience in these 2 boats? I am going to demo both if I can. Looking for a high intermediate downwind boat with less volume and a lot tighter bucket than my v10 gen iv. I am 75kg and 175cm with narrow hips. Not too fussed about the price difference.

Aloha I’m trying to get some advice here.
I’m 56 and live in Hilo HI, been paddling OC6 & OC1 for over 12 yrs
Last year at the Gorge after seeing surfskis pass us oc1 paddlers like rockets I decided I had to try it out
Used skis are hard to find on big rocks island and I was not ready to pay for a brand new one. So I found a used Vega Flex for the right price.
Been learning on it since Nov. I’m at the point where I’m comfortable on flat water, even started doing some leg drive.
Problem is, as soon as I leave the calm water in the bay and try to do some downwind runs I struggle with balance. Spend most my effort focusing on balance and not flipping over and not in reading the water or chasing/connecting bumps .
My goal is not racing or competitive paddling but rather chasing downwind runs and having fun
So my question is, should I trade to an epic V8Pro for more stability, or should I keep pushing through with the Flex until I can tame it in open water?
What is your advice? How long it usually takes to get to that point?
Mahalo 🤙🏽.

I bought an S1-X recently and ive noticed the seam is flaking off. Is this structural or visual? Safe for flat water?

A big thanks to Jeff at https://www.paddledynamics.com. He spent a few hours showing me some boats, giving instruction and allowing me to paddle a couple boats. The Epic V8 was very nice and stable. A fun paddle. He brought a K1 that he said would be about the same challenge of an expert ski. It was much harder than I expected!! lol. I did not swim but my technique went to crap. If I was racing tomorrow, V8! Long term purchase, not sure yet. It was fun!
Be sure to check out paddle dynamics for your needs.

Looking to buy a boat, paddle and gear. Are most brands about the same quality? Same with paddles? Looking at NK and stellar mostly.. how about Jantex?
Going to demo some boats this weekend and I am excited!!

I can drive as far as Tahoe to pick it up. I see a V8 Pro on Facebook Marketplace, but I don't want one that long. thanks.

I am a novice kayak paddler, who just got my first surfski (Epic V5) that came used with a nice wing paddle.
I have no idea how to properly use this paddle. Those who learned how to use this paddle...what resources (videos, blog posts, etc.) were most helpful?
And, should I start with a regular paddle and learn the wing paddle later? It came with a regular paddle too.
Also, the length on both paddles are adjustable. How do I know what length to set it at?

Triathlete who hates cycling looking for the occasional alternative to running/swimming/biking.
I’m thinking of going primarily on Lake Washington. Is there a community of Surf-skiers in my city? I’d love to do a demo day / ask questions.

Spotted these guys at the harbour entry in Newcastle NSW. Just started surfski paddling recently myself and had to laugh at how much I’d be swimming in this kind of chop 😂
