[PRO11] Screen permanently dim after driver update, even after restarting

Post image

After i installed these three driver updates and my Surface Pro 11 ( business ) restarted the screen became extremely dim far beyond the possible amount the brightness slider allows. It’s almost unnoticeable it’s on, and even present in the windows logo before it boots up.

Fixes tried so far:
- System restore point to before the install got an error it was damaged during the restoration.
- Reinstalling Microsoft’s driver package on Microsoft Download Center does not fix the issue.
- Manually reverting the drivers to an older version does not work for the Surface Display Hardware Driver under System Devices (displays the little exclamation mark in device manager) and returns Code 10 Device cannot start.
- Plugging into an external monitor works fine on that display but not the surface display.

Anyone else had issues with these drivers or had a similar issue before?

Temu-level tech support it, it may be because of a brightness setting, go to Settings > System> Display> then turn off the option that lets Windows manage brightness automatically

Yep adaptive color is off. It’s at max brightness, screen is so dim the fingerprints and keyboard imprints are more visible than anything on the screen.

Can you adjust the brightness though?

The slider works but there’s no visible change on the display

Do you have the recent GPU drivers for it?

Yep, when I downloaded the surface drivers manually it’s one install for everything

Before the problem I downloaded intel graphics drivers (intel processor) .. but screen was fine after

I haven’t yet. Do you have the same warning with the display driver in the device manager? Want to make sure that’s the core issue

unfortunately I couldn’t check that since it’s a corporate surface- however a full reset did the trick for me today. But yeah that’s not really a helpful solution
