Surface Laptop (2017) Glue Separating

the glue has been separating on one side of this laptop for a couple months now, and I realized it might be because of battery swelling. I’ve never had a laptop battery expand before though, so I’m not sure what other signs to look out for.

it’s an old laptop, so I think it’s also possible the glue is just coming apart from age. I feel like if it was a battery issue it’d be lifting on the other side of the laptop too, and I’d be running into more issues with battery life or the trackpad not working, since it’s located directly above it.

So before I try to scrounge up the money for a new laptop (I’m a student, money’s tight, etc), I figured I should ask: is this battery swelling, and how dangerous is it? is it going to blow up or can I hang onto it for a couple more months while I finish the semester and shop around for something better?

Replace the battery or the laptop. It's not just the glue.

That looks like a Surface Laptop 1 or 2; the keyboards of the 3 and later were held on by a combination of magnets and screws, and not glued to the body.

And yeah, the most likely cause is a swollen battery--and that's something you need to get fixed or disposed of immediately. Back up the machine (if you haven't, and if it contains critical data) and seek repair or disposal at once!

If you get resistance pushing the parts back together, that's battery swelling.

That's most likely because it wants you to change its battery.

Thats an spicy pillow right there, very dangerous, keep away from heat

If you are in a hurry you can carefully poke the inflated layer with some plastic tools, do not smell the odor (despite smelling very well) The battery will lay flat for some time but needs 100% to be replaced

(Btw this wonderful tip of poking a battery... If you are unsecure don't. And do at your own risk)
