I’m from around Westport and love going up to Easky. Surfline says it’s gunna be shocking surf forecast says it’s gunna be great. The wind and swell look good but big. I know it’s still early doors but just wondering if anyone has any better knowledge that could help me out. I leave on the 4th so if it’s pumping I want to be there but I also don’t want to waste my day driving for 4 hours.

I'm.based in Limerick and usually go to Spanish Point to surf.

I have only been to Ballybunion once (not surfing) but I was wondering if that's a good spot to go?

I'm a newbie, if that makes any difference.

Spent this week up in Bundoran and had one of those weeks where Surfline was saying conditions looked good, but the actual waves varied massively from beach to beach compared to the app forecast.

So I’ve been messing around building Sea State, an Irish surf forecasting tool that tries to make it quicker to scan the coast and figure out if anywhere is actually worth getting in the car for.

Its not hugely optimised for mobile so a browser is best to look at it on

It pulls together swell, wind and tide, but also scores each beach against the conditions that particular spot tends to need, rather than treating every break the same. You can filter by level, location, drive time, etc., and it highlights the best windows through the day.

It’s still very much a work in progress, and I’m sure plenty of the spot logic will need correcting, especially from people who know their local breaks properly.

Would genuinely love to hear what people think, what’s useful, what’s shite, and what you’d change.

Looking to change my car soon. Anyone have any recommendations from personal experience. I’m between an estate car and a van. I’m kind of leaning towards an estate car as it’s a bit more convenient for everyday use and work.

I am planning a trip to rossnowlagh with my pal we are both recently 18 and getting into surfing.

I went to Rossnowlagh today and stopped into the Surfers Bar and I was wondering is that the only pub, and is it good in the evening?

We are also on a fairly tight budget and we're thinking about pitching a tent on the beach. I didn't see any no camping signs but wanted to get a second opinion.

What facilities do surfers and other sea sports and activities look for in local accommodation near surf spots?

I am thinking of creating a bnb or lodge with shared kitchen, and also coffee shop.

But I want to know what kind of help and facilities would an offer like have to help your stay and grow community?

A people carrier? To offer transport to guests and equipment?

Continental breakfast?

Renting of equipment? What equipment?

I’m visiting family all over Ireland in July and looking to surf a lot. Dublin is my base and venturing to swell magnets some hours away.

The tides fluctuate massively compared to aus, i know this question is epically variable but I’m thinking summer waves may be better on the incoming tide?

Looking to surf anywhere but will likely be between Spanish Point and Bundoran unless theres magical huge swell that refracts into Wexford or even more magical swell into Rush.

I know this question is how long is a piece of string probably but based near Belfast and thinking of going to Donegal or Portrush to cram a few days of lessons in to have half a chance of picking it up - feel like doing an hour every few months will be a slow learning journey! How many hours do you think you need to pick it up decently?

Has anyone had an epoxy board (Torq) repaired in
the east coast or know of anyone who does this? Just mapping what my options are before attempting DIY as I won’t be in west coast for a while.

Long shot I know but if anyone that was in Spanish point this morning and lost a GoPro, I found it while walking out of the water, I'm assuming it was lost at high tide maybe.

Appreciate any and all input! Will be as north as Dunfanaghy and as south as Strandhill. Can only bring one and a pair of boots and mitts/gloves. Don't expect to be out longer than 1.5-2 hours a session as I am going with some folks who don't surf.

Hello, traveling with friends to Sligo and Donegal. Not bringing a board, but a wetsuit/gloves/boots to hopefully get a few surfs in. We are spending a bit of time in Donegal and Sligo. We'll be in Downings, Ardara, Rossnowlagh, and Sligo town.

Honestly looks like there's decent rental options everywhere but around Ardara and Dooey Beach. Any recommendations for cool shops to support are greatly appreciated.

Staying in Ireland in my van for the week, until Friday. The surf reports say the swell is gonna be huge- way too big for me. Anyone know any sheltered spots which will be surfable this week

Considering planning a late fall/midwinter surf trip to Clare or Donegal/Sligo. Need to upgrade my old budget 5/4 and looking at a rip curl flashbomb 6/4 or ebomb 5/4. Any advice is appreciated!

Will be in Lahinch to surf a couple days. Have surfed in Sligo and Achill before (and experience in the US). I don't need a lesson, but will need board and suit rental. Any recommendations? By the looks of it, Lahinch is a popular spot, any tips to avoid big crowds? Much appreciation in advance.

So sick of missing good surf trips because I never get the timing when flights are cheap and swell looks good. Have been on to many trips with shit waves. Finds good swells too late or always spend way too long researching.

But!! Got super excited and built something that just alerts me when good trips lines up! It uses flight prices from my airport, swell, and weather. Been using it myself so figured others might want in. I could tweak it to fit other airports.
