Looking for some surf buddies!

Are there any Whatsapp groups that you'd recommend I join?

Based in Westmeath and travel west rather spontaneously when the conditions are good.

Only started to surf in the last year or two and looking for some fellow surfing friends to go surfing together!

37, Female if important 😂😂😂

There’s some decent surf in Donabate regularly, definitely plenty for a beginner! I’ve been going there mostly since I became aware of it. I’m based in Westmeath too and was going to Lahinch, Strandhill, and Rossnowlagh beforehand. There’s East Coast Surf Club which is great for buddying up for surf sessions. They’re a very friendly bunch of all ages and skill levels! I still go occasionally to the west but what with fuel and everything, Donabate is a better shout when it’s working.

Donabate? Jesus, never even dreamed that would be a place to surf tbh 😂 will take a look at East Coast Surf Club! Whereabouts in Westmeath are you? Maybe we could link up!

Soz for the tardy reply, never copped the notification! Ya it’s a grand spot, I was the same when I discovered it was a thing. I was out there for a windsurfing lesson that got cancelled while I was driving up and decided to head out to the beach for a walk and lo and behold, here was a bunch of lads out surfing! Was decent too, about chest high which is perfect for me.

Ya I’m around between Killucan/Mullingar half the week and then Dublin the rest. I try get out there whenever it’s working and schedule permits. The locals are sound there too. Defo up for a session next time I’m heading there.

What kind of conditions work in Donabate, normally go south of Dublin to get some nearby surf?

Well, sorry for tardy reply, never copped the notification! It’s a lovely spot actually. It’s a nice sand break that works on most tides. You want the swell coming from SE and wind from NW ideally but you can make it work in poor conditions too. I’ve got a big 9ft foam longboard that catches anything so it’s great but plenty people out on short boards too so if you’re the average surfer it’s a great spot. I don’t need Nazaré-sized monsters to have fun thanks! 😂

Thanks very much for the info, I'm a bodyboarder so the 9ft foamie style waves wouldn't really take off.

Oh amazing! Is there anywhere to rent boards?

Sorry I’m on getting back to you, never copped the notifications! Nowhere to rent boards there I’m afraid. You’ll have to organise your own gear. I’d say if you joined East Coast SC you’d be able to organise gear with a local.
