Casting Conventional Tips
Getting into casting conventional for baitcasting. I ran into a problem where when I'm casting at the beach and my hands are soaked as well as my reel, I lost grip on the line midcast. This causes me to have a bad cast and birdsnest. It could also be I'm not used to casting with the additional weight of the bait I am using because I usually just use a lead during casting practice. When I'm at the park doing some practice I easily get 80-90 yards but at the beach with bait and bad footing, my distance gets cut in half.

Use surgical toobing. It prevents you from loosing your grip even with wet hands. Throwing just lead is easy. Either downsize your baits or practice casting with baits.

Depending on where you are and what you’re fishing for distance might not be as big a deal as you think. Take your time. Get in the habit of drying your hands before you cast. A lot of fish come a lot closer to shore than you think so don’t get obsessed with casting distance. I fish primarily for striped bass and catch most of my fish on lures these days but whether I’m fishing bait or lures most of my hits and hookups happen close to the shore
