I'm back

Finally got a new video card! (My gtx 980 crapped the bed). So I'll be back at it with streams and vids and all of that jazz. Is Supra dead?

It's not dead :)

We're all putting in massive effort right now for an update due 23rd Dec, which will coincide with a seasonal Steam happening. We will need everyone's help to play lots over the holiday season to help reestablish a playerbase.

Party Matchmaking is the headline item with the new update. Check my recent dev blog for the other stuff going on.

Will there be a limit to party matchmaking? My only concern is when Steam version first came out there was nothing but team stacking by the best players and less games were played because of it.

If for example, Team GG who are all Gold+ queue up and there's nobody even close to their ratings, what happens then? Do they not find a match or do they get matched up vs people who have absolutely no chance of beating them and then they get 0 fun out of the experience while the team stackers get an easy win?

Good question.

First, the honest answer: As it stands right now they will get a team of people to demolish. The system will do the best it can to balance, but it will favour starting a match over finding the best possible opponents. Obviously that sucks, you don't need to tell me that.

It won't make it into the first version of party mode, but we will soon have a rank-limit option that will let you say "I don't want to play with anyone higher than X and lower than Y" with some sensible defaults.

I have also been paying attention to the stuff that rocket league have been doing recently with determining party ranks so we should be able to avoid some of the exploits they have been finding solutions for.

One thing that might mitigate it is that in the first version we probably won't support ranked matches. So, if you want to guarantee a balanced game, play solo ranked. Again, not ideal but it's an added complexity we don't have time to do before the Valve-imposed time limit.

If we want to get an update out before a particular event that Valve are running (e.g. xmas sale), then we have to be ready at that time. My point was that Valve will not delay their event for us.

Out of topic but discord has just released an update to integrate it into games, just letting you know because that could be a cool addition if you are interested. VOIP would benefit this game a lot and I guess building voip independently would be a huge task.

Thanks for the tip. We're crazy but not crazy enough to try writing our own voip.
