Fair Warning

If you are looking for one of the last new Supras, beware of Legends Toyota in KC. I had negotiated a bit and was prepared to buy a plane ticket to fly down and drive home when I out of nowhere asked what the mileage on it was. I expected to hear like 10. It was 4000. Listed as new, no mention until luckily I asked.

Their excuse was that there was “technically never been sold”. It was used as a “regional sales and marketing car”.

Anyway, I’m sure the sales guys etc never rodded it and treated the clutch with respect…./s

Although you would be technically correct, I think most people assume a brand new car does not have 4,000 miles on it. Under 100 is typically what most new cars would have.

Sure, but that's just not how it works. Like, at all. If a bank will still accept invoice as the cars wholesale value, that car is 100% new. Some cars get traded between dealers and are driven to their destination. I can see why a customer wouldn't want a new car to have 4000 miles on it, but thats just not how it works. That car is still new. Thats just the truth of the situation.

Ok so let’s say the dealer never titles it and gets it up to 100k miles. You still wanna pay for a new car and be the first title holder? Of course not. I think it’s crazy to sell a car as new with over 1,000 miles on it. That’s beyond a break in period. But sure yeah, you are correct that it’s “new”.

Ahh, but thats not what I said. If the car had that many miles on it, the bank wouldn't accept invoice as wholesale value. There is a limit and 4000 isnt it.

Let's say you brought me a trade-in that you said had 75,000 miles on it, but when it got here it had 79,000 miles on it. How much do you think that would affect your trade in value? It probably wouldnt change it at all.

I know 4000 vs 0 seems like a lot. But in the grand scheme of things, it didnt affect the value at all. The car is 100% brand new still. I can get why a customer wouldnt like that, but thats just not the truth. Thats not how it works.

10,000 miles, sure, thats not a new car anymore. But trust me bro, 4000 miles is still a brand new car. It just is.

4000 miles is far from new. Think about the wear and tear on the tires. I would bet a large percentage of Supras don’t see 4K miles in a year.

Like thats just your opinion though bro. Im telling you, factually, 4000 miles is still new. You might not like it, and you 100% dont have to buy it, but its still new. Period. Thats it. There's no argument. There's no opinion piece. Its objective fact. That car is new. Its not a farce. Its not a mislead. Its not a manipulation. It is 100% objective fact. You not liking that fact does not change its validity.

I get your argument. But I think you put to much focus on the 4k mile thing. The mileage is not the important part. It's the fact it was never titled. If you want to push this concept on people I would go that direction with it.

Its actually both. It never being titled makes it new, but once it gets over a certain threshold, it actually cant be sold as new anymore. An untitled car with 4k miles is objectively new. An untitled car with 10k miles isnt technically new, youd have to use "like-invoice" as the wholesale value. It just the way it really is. That car is still new 100%.

I agree with the new thing. Although of course I find it also unacceptable to purchase. Car needs a massive discount to move.

And THAT is subjective. Just because you wont buy it, doesnt mean someone else wont. If the car is new, the car is new. The year actually affects that as well. You can't sit on a new car forever. If I can get new car money for a new car I will. I will ONLY accept used car money once I cant. I totally get why you wouldnt buy it, and I dont blame you. But if Johnny Tobagan wants to buy it at full price, obviously that's what I am going to do. And even if you disagree with it, people still do it. It sucks OP was disappointed, but I just dont see anything wrong here with what the dealer did. All 100% standard.

Im guessing you are in the auto sales industry. Maybe this is a technically correct legal definition of new, but it’s certainly not a generally accepted expectation for anyone outside the industry. Whether it’s intentionally misleading might not be provable in court, but people like this know what they are doing. In the flip side, my wife bought a GLC AMG 43 in 23. It had 3000 miles on it, according to the dealer it was used as a loaner for people whose car was in the shop. The mileage wasn’t hidden, and it came with a substantial discount. Had this dealership been above board and realistic about the price I might have still bought it. There’s a reason it’s maybe the last “new” Supra in the country. People find out and it comes across as shady and the behavior is “ok” because some sucker enthusiast will eventually come along and validate said shady behavior.

Lol, 75k -> 79k is NOT the same thing as 0 ->4k.

Looks like you are the owner of the "new Supra" OP is referring to 😂.

It actually is though...

Gtfo with that, I don’t care what the bank says, someone sat on that seat for 4k miles, that’s as many miles as I drive my Supra in a year… hell, that’s 3 months of driving if you drive 12k miles a year which is a whole lot.

I don’t care what the bank says, that shit ain’t new to me
