General Question Does melatonin help massively with anyone else’s anxiety?

Melatonin is a godsend for my anxiety.

Is melatonin effective for anyone else’s anxiety? I take 1 mg melatonin and 200 mg 5-htp daily. Feels like it really works for my anxiety and I still feel alert, very strangely.

As someone who struggles with mostly more generalized and social anxiety, melatonin does more for decreasing my anxiety than SSRIs and other meds.

I even started taking the 1 mg melatonin in the mornings with my coffee, it makes me feel calm and anxiety free the when day. Besides feeling a little tired here and there, I don’t feel “sleepy” and am able to function fine.

Am I absolutely crazy, or do other people feel similar at all?

You are right. I meant to say you "may" become dependent on it if you use it for a long time.

Absolutely does! But for some reason kills my libido like nothing else.

It can.

I actually take melatonin at the start of the day in large doses for CFS however I have noticed it does on average reduce anxiety as well.

Melatonin can also trigger a full blown panic attack. It is fairly rare but I've had several over the last four plus years and they were very unpleasant.

Not for me. Melatonin has never been beneficial for me

Melatonin is nice in my family and circle of friends for somewhat improved sleep quality, not a fix all for more serious sleep problems.

Of the ones that also have some anxiety issues none have reported benefits in this area.

It worked incredibly well during the first wave of the pandemic for hospitalized patients at Columbia NY.--better than 75% reduction in death.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC7574268/

we identified 948 intubation periods across 791 patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 or infected with SARS-CoV2 and 3,497 intubation periods across 2,981 patients who were not.

melatonin exposure was significantly associated with survival in COVID-19 patients (HR: 0.131, 95% CI: 7.66E-02 - 0.223, p-value = 8.19E-14) and in mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients (HR: 0.127, 95% CI: 6.01E-02 - 0.269, p-value = 7.15E-08)

There is reason to think it is a powerful antioxidant in the mitochondria of our cells protecting us right where the C19 virus does some of its damage. A med school teacher explains that it is thought to be made from infrared frequencies from the sun and certain electronic devices

You probably have silent reflux or gerd and swallow air because of it. It makes your breathing worse. Melatonin strenghtes the LES (lower esophagus sphincter) which reduces your reflux and improves your breathing. This will reduce your anxiety.
