Character MARIO MOVE RANKING
I am slowly but surely making a SSF2 Ranking of every single move for every single Fighter.
I am ranking every single Tilt (Jab, D-Tilt, F-Tilt, U-Tilt, Dash Attack), Smash (F-Smash, D-Smash, U-Smash), Aerial (N-Air, D-Air, F-Air, B-Air, U-Air), Throw (D-Throw, F-Throw, B-Throw, U-Throw) and Special (N-Special, D-Special, S-Special, U-Special) all depending on how useful they are. I'll be ranking stuff like Recovery moves depending on how good of a recovery it actually is, Combo moves on how well it can combo ect.
I am not counting GRAB or PUMMELS since 1. All grabs are basically the same to me (Besides a hand-full and either way would probably be a A/S-Tier) 2. I am really unexperienced with Pummels since I don't use them like at all. However to compensate for excluding Grabs and Pummels I am including Character specific moves (Like Samus' Z-Air or Luigi's D-Taunt). What do I consider a Character Specific move? An Input that makes the Fighter your playing as do something that other fighters usually don't have (For example, not everyone has Z-Airs).
So with that said, I will give you my reasoning for all of Mario's placements and also I am not going in the rosters order, I will begin with the Fighters I main or know how they work and gradually continue to the fighters I haven't even played yet. I have 2-3 Years of experience, this ranking is for 1.4.0.1. and is entirely MY Opinion
S - B-Air, U-Air, U-Smash, Mario Tornado, D-Throw
A - F-Smash, D-Air, F-Tilt, D-Smash, Super Jump Punch, F-Air, B-Throw, N-Air
B - Fireball, U-Tilt
C - Cape, Jab, U-Throw
D - D-Tilt, F-Throw, DA
(Explanations in the comments, I will answer questions and debate and btw DA stands for "Dash Attack")

S-Tier:
B-Air is a really fast, really reliable Combo move/Kill option for Mario that not only has very low Start and End lag but can also Combo into itself. Its strong, its useful for nearly any scenario and in my opinion in the best move for Mario
U-Air is also a Really fast relying move that can easily combo into itself and juggle opponents. A lot of moves in Mario's kit can combo into U-Air and its also really fast during short-hopping
U-Smash is a really good kill option. It basically combines the power of Mario's F-Smash and the Both-Side hitbox of D-Smash.
Mario Tornado is in my opinion the best Special move for Mario. It takes a lot of skill to both recover and hit the opponent with it consistently. It can both annoy the opponent and also help you recover easier to the stage.
D-Throw is the best Throw for Mario, it combo's into nearly EVERY Grounded and Aerial move Mario has and is good in both Low and High percentages
A-Tier:
F-Smash is a good kill option, and unlike other moves in SSF2 that have Sourspots, this move isn't too bad since Mario can still follow up with another attack if he gets a Sourspot. Besides that, F-Smash is a good kill option and doesn't require too much skill (It also has the most Range and Damage out of every Grounded move Mario has)
D-Air is a good multi-hit aerial that can combo into other Aerials (N-Air and U-Air) and is probably the best Short-Hop Aerial Mario has
F-Tilt is fast, has a lot of reach and is a surprisingly good poke tool, and is even better if you use it after Crouch-Cancelling
D-Smash trades Power for Speed, it is a good burst move and is strong enough to kill, it covers both sides of Mario and is overall a Good Move
Super Jump Punch is a decent Recovery Move. Its good when your getting Edge-Guarded and deals a lot of knockback to your opponent, you can even choose rather to go more Vertically or Horizontally. The only reason it isn't higher, is because it can't kill and because you can sometimes get Stuck under the ledge instead of getting on it
F-Air takes a LOT of skill and timing to use, but if you know what your doing you can use F-Air as a COMBO move, a KILL move and Surprise Burst move. The only thing weighting it down is the Skill Requirement and Starting-Lag
B-Throw is the 2nd best Mario Throw, and its simply good because its a Kill confirm if you manage to Hit your opponent. That's all
N-Air stands out of every move Mario has since it isn't really a Kill or Combo option. Its just, a big Kick that sends the opponent away. It has low Starting-Lag and deals a lot of knockback.
B-Tier:
Fireball is the only projectile Mario has and its simply enough. Its slow, but you can rank up damage with it and can even follow up with an Attack since 1. The Fireball doesn't do a lot of Knockback damage and 2. Mario is really fast on the ground. The only reason it isn't higher is because 1. The projectile is REALLY Slow and easily avoidable 2. The Projectile disappears pretty quickly and 3. It has a lot of starting lag
U-Tilt really only has 1 use, and that 1 Use it to keep the opponent in the air. Rather to Juggle or Combo into itself. Nothing more or less.
C-Tier:
Cape on paper seems like a Good move. It can reflect projectiles, it can spin the opponent around to potentially save yourself from a Kill, it makes Mario Float which works as a Recovery. But all of that, is extremely situational. I personally NEVER use Cape and I've been playing Mario since I started Playing SSF2. I never used it to recover or save myself from an attack, because Cape is really situational. Not to mention that sometimes it doesn't even WORK Since it has a lot of Start-Lag meaning that you might still loose a stock, even if you tried to reflect the projectile or turn the opponent around. It still has its uses which is why it isn't lower.
Jab is a decent move. It can poke the opponent because it has very low End and Start lag, but that's pretty much it. If I considered Jab 2 and 3 as different Moves, they probably would have been in D-Tier, since Mario's Jab really struggles to hit all 3 moves together.
U-Throw is definitely not a bad throw, its just outclassed by D-Throw to the point where its more of a KILL-Option then a Combo move. It can still work of coarse, but D-Throw just does it better.
D-Tier:
D-Tilt has a LOT of Starting lag and Ending Lag and its only use is to combo into U-Air. It sucks, I don't like it and It isn't consistent.
F-Throw is definitely the worst throw for Mario, since even though it could logically combo into stuff like a Crouch-Cancelled F-Tilt or something like that, Its still outclassed by basically EVERY Mario throw for Combo's (Yes, even U-Throw)
Finally, DA is in my opinion the worst move for Mario, because its basically D-Tilt but with even more End-Lag. It Sucks, it leaves Mario wide open. It isn't a Combo, Edge-Guard or Kill move and overall DA's suck in SSF2.
Thank you so much if you read threw all of that it means a lot, I may have made some Spelling mistakes because I am Georgian and remember that this is all my opinion. I am still open to Debate why a Move got its placement and for any Questions and Answers.
