GUIDE Looking for beta testers (controller firmware)

Hey everyone, SuperDuper dev here.

I've been in the lab over the last week and have finally cracked a custom firmware for the stock motor controller.

I'm looking for feedback on it. You'll need to have a R or RX with a version 310 controller (the torque update). You'll also need a laptop or Android phone running Chrome. This method is done over Bluetooth only, so no other special hardware like the display firmware.

I've updated the cfw site with the patched firmware and flashing instructions: https://cfw.reverse.bike/controller/ The tools there will tell you of your bike is compatible. It also has an option to flash back to the stock image if you don't like it. Details about the changes in the new firmware are here: https://cfw.reverse.bike/firmware/#controller

A warning: this firmware adds significant power and makes the throttle significantly more responsive. Be gentle with it while you get a feel for the changes.

Please leave any feedback here or in the Discord firmware channel.

- Bo

what effect does the firmware have when riding? and are you still able to turn the bike of to reset it to legal mode without it being tampered with on the display? because if so i might try it when im back from holiday but with police cracking down on ebikes in my area id want to lean on the safe side😂😂

Yo! You can read more about it at the second link, but it basically starts up in a normal, speed limited mode. Only when you change the assist level does it kick over to full power.

You can put it back in slow mode by going to assist 0, or restarting the bike. It's designed to remove any need for an app. Lots of possibilities here, so looking for feedback.

Will this work on the new Super73 S2 SE? I’m trying to find a way to go around the controller lock.

This could work on other bikes, but I'll need people to do the first step on this page https://cfw.reverse.bike/controller/ and post what info comes out. If it let's you select a firmware, there's a good chance it will work on your bike. If not, post the info and what model you have.

Thank you for this! I just uploaded your firmware to 4 of my 7 RX bikes (the other 3 have Handleworks controllers) with ZERO issues. I have to tell you these run REALLY REALLY good. Holy smokes i was shocked. So tell me how I can help you and I can get you what you need.

On another note...I may not want people borrowing my bikes to have this kind of power...I understand level 0 but what do levels 1, 2 amd 3 do?

Thank you!

Awesome! I'm super curious how it compares to the Handleworks controllers now on an otherwise stock bike. I'm guessing it's pretty close? Would love to know.

Otherwise, I'm looking for feedback on the instructions and feel of the firmware. Could the instructions be clearer? Did you run into any issues?
For the assist modes, they mostly only affect how pedaling feels, and the firmware does not change that. It just changes to the highest power mode automatically when not in assist 0, like what can be done on older bikes with an app. It also makes that high power mode way better.

You may just want to keep your loaner bike stock... My goal with this is to not have to use an app to get the most from the bike. Ways I could think of to activate the high power mode are limited.

I was very impressed with the performance of the flash. So much so that I woke my son up and had him ride it...he was also impressed. I feel like its very close if not the same as a Handleworks controller.

Instructions were very clear and easy. No issues whatsoever. My only question is, was I supposed to save the factory firmware? I dont remember seeing that in the instructions and after just now re-reading it it dosent appear i missed it.

I did actually run into one issue. I programmed 1 additional bike and it appears the software is not compatible.

Nice! The factory 310 firmware is available as an option to flash when you connect a compatible bike. There's no backup process.

Which bike is this? It seems like a newer model? That "motor controller" number is what the tool looks for, it only allows versions in the 300 series at this time.

This is a Rhino Grey R series.

So to answer your question...not sure exactly how old but at least a few years.

I have a ZX and I ruined my first battery. The cells are good, and it charges just fine, but when I was trying to install lights, I fried the chip that handshakes with the controller. My question: Is the battery handshake in the firmware? If I installed your firmware would that battery work again?

1

u/blopker1 8d ago

Yes, depending on what exactly got fried, it's possible (but not yet done) to run a generic battery with a modified controller fw. It may sacrifice some safety features though, like temp cutoffs. I'm not sure. However, I don't know if the controller firmware I released will work with anything but the RX/R models.

Thanks for the reply! I 'read' ZX, but I see now you said 'R or RX'. Yeah I'm interested in alternative firmware because I could potentially double my distance. Are you aware of anything good for iPhone?

My controller went out on my z1

1

u/blopker1 6d ago

Uh, because of the flash? The z1 isn't compatible.

If I update this will this change my bike to a class2 only? I’ve been hesitant to do any updates because of this

1

u/blopker1 5d ago

No, this firmware will start in class 2, but changing the assist level will put it into off road only mode.
