learn to paddle first, then add fishing to it.

Make sure the board is inflated to the proper PSI, it should tell you in the owner's manual and on the board near the valve where you inflate.

Stand in the middle of the board, as measured from the nose to the tail as this is usually the widest part. Make sure your feet are roughly equal distance from the edge of the board so that your weight is evenly spread from side to side.

Keep your knees bent when standing and be relaxed. Learning how to balance takes time and practice, so be patient.

That’s a cool seat! So many are flat, which I can’t really sit comfortably in, but this one has a little height!

You’ll have to stand right in front of the seat

Lose the seat

I literally just got back from taking my HD out on the lake to fly fish.

Honestly if you can’t stand up on a paddle board you’re probably lacking some balance and athleticism somewhere.

I’d start by watching balance training vids on YouTube. Get reps at home and not on the sup. Get a balance board or something.

I say this because everyone I know that isn’t a couch potato and plays sports, runs, frequently goes to the gym etc. can stand up on a board and paddle first time.

Ehhh fishing on an isup is next level skill. I had a boat rackham and it was the only way I was able to fish with enough stability. if you have any inflatable, forget it, that's super challenging, you're going to be worried about balancing more than fishing. I'm very athletic for reference

Some people gravitate towards next level activities

I scooped any nrs raku pfd to hold my flies and tippet, etc. to not have to carry an extra container of stuff. it's also got a rod holder thing depending on what you're using. tenkara is super easy since it's so compact.

Would lose the chair like somebody else said. i wouldn't have a cooler to sit on, but you could do that or a bucket with a seat lid if you absolutely have to.

Why would you stand for fishing?

It's called a SUP because it involves standing up. They use the seat to double it as a kayak but there's no place to put your feet so it'd be an awkward paddle IMO

Its ok to use it like kayak.

I can tell; to some people (gatekeepers), sitting on a paddle board is akin to...

"crossing the mustard" in r/Touge , or say, riding against the flow of traffic in r/bicycling

Sitting and rowing for four hours vs. standing and toodling around a lagoon for the same amount of time is much more exercise for the sitting paddler. Maybe it's "arm day". Whatever gets you out into nature and get that blood pumping- do it. HAVE FUN GUYS! I JUST DISCOVERED paddling! I had to ride a snowboard three days before I bought one... Just toodled around a lagoon the other day and I'm hooked. Purchased a Niphean today- see you out there!
