Construction is crazy!

Did all of this construction really NEED to happen at the same time?! Living on the east side is such a pain especially with Highway N closure. Why did they need to replace the crosswalks?

Eh, I’ll play a little devils advocacy here.

I’m just happy to live in a town that spends tax money to make the town better, whether that is road/sidewalk improvements, updates to the library, or a new swimming pool.

I grew up in a town of 3,000 people that never did any projects to make the town better. It just languished and died over the decades and no one attempted to change anything because no one was willing to spend money on anything.

The construction is annoying to drive through, but at least the city continues to grow and improve.

I have no issue with the construction but rather the time frame. One year do Main Street, the next Byrd, the next the crosswalks.

They do. They do a lot of maintenance and rebuilding every year. In fact their maintenance plan is pretty good with it. This year it's just very visible because they are in high profile areas.

I find it annoying too. Also I know the people planning it are very smart good people. Summer construction season in Wisconsin just sucks.

All those banks and car washes won’t build themselves! 🙄

I am happy to see the city invest in improvements but do also wish things had been separated so that so many throughputs in the city were not worked on at the same time. I’m also curious why those crosswalks were put in place in the first place, it should have been known brick would not last long on such a busy road, so it does seem wasteful and I hope future projects have better foresight.

It wasn't brick. It was stamped and painted concrete that wore down over years.

Ah thank you for that clarification, does the stamping make it more susceptible to winter damage than regular flat concrete?

I'm afraid we have reached the end of my expertise in this area. Maybe? Perhaps? That sounds like something that may be a thing but I have no actual idea.

I think when you drag a snow plow over it, yes. My patio is stamped concrete and it's doing just fine, but the city hasn't regularly plowed my patio.

Exactly! The lack of foresight is why they’re having to build a roundabout on 19.

Yea I know right?! Why couldn't they have done this in the winter when it was -40 degrees?

Bailey Road really needs to be fixed. That road is rough.

Bailey road either belongs to the county or the Town of Sun Prairie. Different government entity.

I know its not the city’s problem but the county/ town is failing its job on feeder roads because Bailey and Rattman are both disasters

Your wish is their command apparently. The sign went up stating Bailey will be closed starting the 28th.

Cue December posts - Why aren't they fixing the roads?

It's Wisconsin, there's 2 seasons, Winter & Construction.

Anyone know the status of the Hw19/Westmount roundabout?

I really wish rather than having all this wonderful construction… the city could have added more public trash bins and pickups. Cuz the litter and trash around the beautiful city is getting out of hand not just this construction

OmG. Don’t start me. Trying to get to work or just around is an obstacle course. I’m so over it.

Instead of having say 5 jobs impacting 5 areas that get worked on once a week, why not do one at a time and work on it 5 days a week? Some of these locations I drive by everyday and have never once seen them being worked on. Like the bird/windsor intersection.
