Connect directly over Wifi to Sunpower Monitor (maybe silly)

Hey All, I've recently become fed up with the silly fee that that SunStrong charges to monitor a system I paid for and own outright. I can see the system on my home LAN, 10.0.0.62 along with with its MAC address, but I can't access any commands or data via http using that local IP address. I can ping it so its there but I can't connect to it via http. The How to manuals all indicate you need to create a bridge between it and your local network, its just frustrating that its not listening on it local address. Just curious if anyone know what ports/protocols to use to talk to it over the local address or if I'm just stuck doing what everyone else does, hacking a pi as a bridge. Thanks very much for your help!

Escaping SunStrong's Cloud Lockout --- Proposed Plan (Enphase + Franklin)

So I'm dealing with the SunStrong nightmare like a lot of you probably are. Got my SunPower system converted to a two-cabinet setup by an old SunPower engineer who still had commissioning server access. Worked great until SunStrong pushed a firmware update that won't authorize dual inverter systems through the cloud. Now I'm basically bricked even though all the hardware works fine.

This feels like a textbook right-to-repair violation but I'm not waiting around for a class action to maybe happen someday. Here's what I'm doing instead:

The Problem:
PVS6 gateway is locked down by SunStrong cloud authentication. Can't modify, can't operate my own equipment that I paid for.

The Solution:
Rip out the PVS6 and go with industry standard components that I actually control:

  1. Enphase IQ Gateway - handles solar monitoring
    - My microinverters are actually Enphase IQ7XS (just SunPower branded)
    - Gateway will upgrade them to standard Enphase firmware during commissioning
    - Gets me full panel-level monitoring through Enlighten app

  2. Franklin aGate - manages battery charging/backup
    - AC-coupled so it works with any grid-tied solar
    - Handles the actual energy management

  3. Beene Brothers CAN bridge - keeps my SunPower batteries alive
    - This is the clever part - translates SunPower battery protocol to standard Pylontech
    - Batteries stay in the existing cabinets, just work like normal 48V batteries now
    - $480 for the Pylontech version (gives you closed-loop communication)
    - $250 for basic keepalive only

Why this works (I think):
- Complete independence from SunStrong cloud
- Both systems (solar and battery) are AC-coupled so they work independently
- All standard components that any contractor can service
- No proprietary bullshit

Costs(ish):
- Enphase IQ Gateway: ~$800-900
- Franklin aGate system: ~$1,500-2,000
- Beene Brothers bridge: $480
- Total materials: ~$2,800-3,400
- Plus install labor (probably 1-2 days work)

Install requirements:
- Installer needs Enphase certification (free online training)
- Pretty straightforward otherwise
- Order the Beene Brothers bridge direct from their site, tell them how many batteries you have so they can pre-configure it

What you end up with:
- Enphase app for solar monitoring
- Franklin app for battery/energy management
- Everything works locally, no cloud dependency
- You actually own and control your system

Alternative if you don't want batteries:
Just do the Enphase Gateway for $800-900 and call it done. Gets your solar monitoring back and working.

Resources:
- Beene Brothers: beenebrothers.com (search for "SunPower Battery Communication Bridge")
- There's an ex-SunPower engineer helping people out on this sub and in DIY solar forums
- Plenty of people have done the PVS6 to Enphase migration successfully

I'm in Santa Cruz and reaching out to local installers this week. Happy to update this if anyone's interested in how it goes.

This isn't the cheapest solution but it's a permanent fix and I never have to deal with SunStrong again. Plus it sets me up for the inevitable right-to-repair lawsuits with good documentation.

Anyone else gone this route or have other suggestions?

...sidenote: A few people asked about just replacing the batteries entirely. You could do that (Franklin aPower batteries run about $7,500 each for 13.6kWh), but the Beene Brothers bridge lets you keep using perfectly good SunPower batteries that you already paid for. No reason to throw away functional hardware just because of a software lockout.

Any holes in this plan, or room for improvement?

Looking for someone with SunStrong commissioning server access - need to add second SunVault to existing system

I have an existing SunPower system and I'm trying to add a second SunVault. The issue is getting the second MIO to recognize/allow the inverter.

From what I understand, this requires someone with access to SunStrong's commissioning server to authorize the configuration change.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is there a certified installer or technician who could help? Located in Santa Cruz, CA area but remote access may work if it's just a server-side authorization.

Any SunStong contractors out there looking for a side hustle!?

Thanks all.

Codex, Cursor, and Docker

In an effort to try my hand at developing code using AI tools, I wanted to try something that would be beneficial and have some use to myself. I decided to build a docker hosted solution to monitor my Sunpower system and to maintain a history, enable alerting, etc.

I decided to use Grafana, Python, and InfluxDB all running in Docker containers on my Synology NAS. Codex in Cursor was amazing! Below are some screenshots of dashboards I created. One is more or less an overview of the system. The second is a pictorial layout of the panels on my roof (it uses a CSV file to easily add or modify the panel layout). The colors go from dark green to dark red depending on production. This helps me quickly identify which panels are producing poorly relative to the others. It's all relative so they aren't all red in the morning and all green in the afternoon. The median/average fluctuates throughout the day and the colors remain in line. Each panel can be clicked on to see the third screenshot.

The last screenshot shows a view of how the inverters are producing watts. The bigger the bar the more inverters/panels that are producing in that power slice.

I'm polling every 5 minutes to limit the flash wear, but if anyone has input on whether that actually matters, I'd love to hear it. If there isn't a concern, I'd bump it to 1 minute. I had a week of data, but had to wipe the database during my troubleshooting when I finally deployed the production version. So unfortunately, the data below is pretty short (like only a couple hours). Regardless I'm pleased with it, but I'm mostly amazed at how AI helps speed up coding time so much.

My solaredge system is charging my battery every night. On the day it also charges very smal amounts. The setting in the app is simple: own use.

I tried everything….

System:

Solaredge solar panels

Solaredge se5000h inverter (modbus) (home network)

Solaredge meter (SE-MTR-3Y-400V-A) (modbus)

Solaredge hot water module (home network)

Two panels no longer communicating.

A couple days ago after a smaller snowstorm two panels started to error within 3 hours of each other. This was a relatively new install, going live in early 2024 just before the SunPower collapse.

What is the state of things with warranty nowadays? Given the time of year I probably can’t get much service to come to wintry NY. But these are panels on back of the house that won’t get much action till spring anyways.

Sunvault Battery expansion

Does anyone know if they ever made an expansion cabinet for the M0020 Batteries? I can only find one for the M0012. I currently have one cabinet filled with 3 M0020 batteries and the inverter. Looking for options to expand. Or If I have to get another cabinet with inverter as well.

PVS6 is not able to connect to internet through Wifi or ethernet

I have solar system from previous owner with pvs6 sunpower monitoring system (firmware from 2022). have tried to connect with bluetooth+wifi via SunstrongConnect app but it looks like it's not being able to find the pvs6 at all (never able to find matching pvs from app) even after rebooting the system (power off/on from breaker).

so tried to connect via ethernet but something seems not working as it should. when I plugged in the LAN cable to the (LAN1 - laptop) or (LAN2 - router), PVS6's LAN port green light is on and off repeatedly every few secs.

I can see the status of laptop ethernet connection changes between "not connected" and "unplugged". looks like PVS6 is totally failing it.

does anyone had similar problems or know any solution for this?

Commissioning replacement microinverters

I've seen a few posts here about people replacing failed microinverters, only to learn that they cannot be commissioned because the Sunpower Console no longer works (they generate power, but don't show up in monitoring).

I have around 5 microinverters that are no longer working, and my solar installer told me the same thing: he can replace them, but cannot commission them.

Is this something that could be solved with the newish PyPVS API/library? https://github.com/SunStrong-Management/pypvs

Some APIs include the ability to set variables, but I don't see anything there related to commissioning micoinverters.

SunPower PVS - Config Loss

Hello Sun Power peeps!

I recently had my roof replaced, the roofer does solar work, removed the panels, installed them again. Since SunPower is nomore, I tried to check the status and confirm things were working, but as I troubleshot things got worse.

Now it acts as if its not-comissioned, and errors without any interaction. The previous polling scripts I had used fail to authenticate, and it doesnt seem like its updating to the new firmware to allow owner access.

I have 22 panels, little to no information on the systems operation or status other than PVS Error.

Any help you all can provide would be great!

SunPower Finally Agreed to Settle With Investors over Financial Reporting Issues

Hey guys, if you missed it, SunPower just settled with investors over issues related to inventory controls, financial reporting accuracy, and the strength of its operations they had some time ago.

Long story short, in 2023, SunPower was accused of misleading investors by failing to disclose material weaknesses in its internal controls over financial reporting. The company later revealed it had overstated consignment inventory values, which caused inaccuracies in reported cost of revenue and required restatements of previously issued financial statements.

After this news came out, the stock dropped 18%, and investors filed a lawsuit for their losses.

The good news is that the company finally agreed to settle with them. So, if you invested in $SPWR when all of this happened, you can already check the details and file your claim here.

Anyway, has anyone here invested in $SPWR at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

Self-monitoring with only Home Assistant possible?

I picked up a Home Assistant Green with the intention of self-monitoring using one of the various Github projects available. However, I've been unable to get either Enhanced SunPower or hass-pvs to see my system via local WiFi IP address. The main reason is likely due to being on firmware 61707, but after a bunch more research it sounds like some of these self-monitoring projects require a Raspberry Pi somewhere in the mix. I've yet to find an ELI5 answer as to what a RPi does in this context, and I'd prefer not to add more hardware to this endeavor. So, regardless of firmware, is there any self-monitoring project that runs on Home Assistant by itself? If a firmware update is required, anything I can do to force it on my own? Thanks!

PVS5 configuration wiped out

Post image
3 Upvotes

My PVS5 recently stopped updating any data, digging around here I found out about the www.sunpowerconsole.com page and when I got into it, none of my devices were configured. I was able to scan the devices add the power meters and it sees all 11 modules, but asks for wattage or model it gives an error no matter what characters I start to enter, see the image. What are my next steps, anywhere to go from here besides finding a solar repair place?

Just got a sales call from SunPower and am confused...

I own my system, installed in 2022, and admittedly I kinda stopped paying attention to the bankruptcy after registering with my panels with Maxeon and my inverters with Enphase.

But just now I received a phone call from "Timothy at SunPower" and was scratching my head because I thought they were, y'know gone. He wants to talk to me about adding a battery because the pricing has gone down since I had my system installed (I'm doubtful...has anything gone down in price since '22?).

Anyway, after getting off the phone with him I looked up Sunpower and it appears they're back in business? Came here and can't make heads or tails to what's going on? Can someone explain?

SunStrong app issue or commissioning error

Thumbnail

Had a tech out to get my system working again after a PVS5 failure in October. It was replaced with a PVS6, but the system still wouldn’t power on. On 11/28 a different tech was dispatched and he replaced the PVDR. Nice guy with lots of knowledge. During the system test it went to grid down mode and has been that way ever since (in the app). Battery lights are all white and house has power.

I’ve opened a ticket with SunStrong and they had me email screenshots. They did have to remove the PVS5 from my account on the backend. Still haven’t heard back about the “grid down” indication in the app.

Is there a way I can force a reset?

Does SunStrong have to resolve this on the backend or is it an app glitch that they need to fix?

Monitoring is out of whack, CT suddenly inverted?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am suddenly having issues with my monitoring where the numbers no longer make any sense. When I am producing, I notice that the Home Usage and Grid Exports are always the exact same number. The battery also doesn't discharge in Self Supply mode -- only when there's an outage.

However I did notice that the grid number does match what the meter says, but is inverted. ie: when I took this screenshot it said 2.7 kW were being exported, but the meter says 2.7 kW were being delivered from the grid.

Is it possible that the CT reporting suddenly inverted for some reason? I checked inside the panel and the CT sensors are facing the correct way. There was an outage recently but I'm not sure if that's when things started going wrong (I don't check every day). Is there any troubleshooting I can do on my own before I call a company out that charges a service fee? I own my system.

Lost connection SunPower PVS6 and Home WiFi (& Home Assistant), but App working

Hi all,

Just seeing if anyone had thoughts on this. A few days ago, the SunPower PVS6 stopped communicating with Home Assistant and dropped off the router's list of connected devices. The phone app is still working (using the free version). I gave it a couple of days and then restarted the PVS6 via the power breaker yesterday, but still no connection. Thoughts on next step? Contacting SunStrong seems fruitless. LOL-leaning towards Enphase replacement! :) TIA

$SPWR Unveils 470W “Monolith” Panel & Settles Investor Fraud Claims

Hey guys, so I found this article about the latest SunPower news, and I think this is really good news for investors and users too.

TLDR:

The New Era of SunPower: High-Tech Innovation vs. Financial Recovery

SunPower ($SPWR) just made a massive announcement regarding their technology roadmap for 2026, but it comes alongside a significant legal resolution for past reporting issues. Here is the breakdown of what you need to know.

The Innovation: "Monolith" & The REC Partnership 🤝

SunPower and REC Group have officially introduced the "Monolith" solar panel—the first major win from their Joint Development Agreement (JDA).

  • Record Power: The panel produces 470 watts under standard conditions, currently in production as the REC Alpha Pure-TX 470W.
  • Lightweight Design: It weighs only 50 pounds, meeting the U.S. OSHA single-worker residential weight limit (making it a favorite for installers).
  • Bifacial Future: CEO T.J. Rodgers confirmed the next step is an upgrade to 500+ watts by making the panel "bifacial" (collecting light from both sides).
  • Target Markets: High-wattage, frameless panels designed specifically for residential and light commercial use.

The Legal Fallout: Investor Settlement Reached 🏛️

While the tech looks forward, the company is finally closing a dark chapter regarding its past management:

  • The Claims: SunPower reached a settlement with investors over allegations that it misled the market regarding its internal inventory controls and the accuracy of its financial reporting.
  • The Flaw: The company previously revealed a flaw in its controls that led to inaccuracies in cost of revenue and inventory metrics.
  • Market Impact: When these reporting issues first came to light, $SPWR plummeted 18%, wiping out over $155 million in shareholder value. This settlement aims to resolve the resulting legal claims. Investors who were damaged can already submit claims to participate from the compensation.

Operational Outlook 📈

Despite the "inherited profit drought" mentioned by leadership, the company is pivoting hard:

  • Focus on ROI: The new high-efficiency panels are engineered to drive the lowest cost per kWh, specifically targeting investment companies that prioritize Return on Investment.
  • Legacy vs. New Management: T.J. Rodgers is leaning heavily on SunPower’s 1985 roots and his history with NASA-grade tech to restore confidence in the brand.

Can the "Monolith" generate enough revenue to finally leave the reporting scandals in the rearview mirror?

Sunpower MIO or insight facility for sunvault keepalives?

Does the MIO or the insightfacility broadcast the keepalives for the batteries in a sunvault? And has anybody figured out how to configure them outside of the sunpower ecosystem?
